* Examine the shifting elemental shard to start the quest. The shifting elemental shard (legendary, lore, no-trade, no-value) is dropped by a Shifting Elemental in Kunzar Jungle (Trakaraptor Alley in Kunzar Jungle around loc -627, -70, 473). The Shifting Elemental is a level 80^^^ heroic mob that respawns approximately every 70 minutes. The Shifting Elemental disappears or casts invisibility on itself shortly after popping and needs to be engaged as soon as you can target it. You receive the warden epic weapon quest “A Broken Barrier” upon examining the shard.
Quest starter:
I killed a shifting ethereal elemental in the Kunzar Jungle. A shifting elemental shard is all that is left. An element shifting freely between its own plane and Norrath is a dangerous thing. I should seek out an arch druid who may know more about what the ramifications of such an event may be.
* Travel to Darklight Wood and speak with the arch druid, Veryn P’Neru, at the top of the Shadow Oak. (loc 446, -16, -267)
This is the access point for the top of the Shadow Oak, just inside the door:
"Greetings, druid. I am Veryn P’Neru, an arch druid here at the Shadow Oak."
I am Cryth.
"What brings you here?"

"By Innoruuk’s name…where did you get this?"
From a shifting ethereal elemental in the Kunzar Jungle.
"This is concerning. When we first returned to Kunark we found natural balance dangerously in flux. We placed guardians there to watch over both our realm and the planar realms threatening to break into our world."
How do you watch both realms?
"Through great sacrifice, Cryth. We call them the Wounded. They are wardens who have given their lives for the cause of protection. Through an ancient ritual they have allowed themselves to actually become elementals. In this form they are better able to vet the flow from the invading planar realms into this one. Some elementals are allowed through, yes, but those that threaten balance are generally stopped."
So what does this shard suggest?
"It suggests that the balance is off. I would ask a favor of you."

"We need reports from each of the Wounded: air, earth, fire, and water."
This completes A Broken Barrier and leads into 4 related subquests.
