Awakening the Cudgel
This is part of the Mystic Epic Quest series.
You must complete the concurrent quests:
A Sleeping Stone: Dark Enlightenment (branch of spiritwood)
A Sleeping Stone: Restoring Valor (stalk of earthvine)
A Sleeping Stone: Great Beasts (4 claws)
Once you have completed the trio of quests that culminate in obtaining materials for your Cudgel, return to Takk in Graystone Yard for the final step in this Epic series.
Takk says, 'Ahh, you have returned. You have been gone for some time, and I had feared that you might not have survived the journey.'
You say, 'I did. The spirits helped me to collect parts for my cudgel, which I have here with me.'
Takk says, 'You have done very well, Brasse. Not only have you passed the trials of the TrueSpirit, but you have with you the parts of the Cudgel of Obviation, a weapon that Norrath has not seen in many ages. Now, let us fashion the cudgel together, and prepare you for the coming battle.'
You say, 'I am ready.'
Takk says, 'There. You now have the cudgel, and you are ready for the final battle.'
You say, 'What is this? It feels heavy... lifeless.'
Takk says, 'It is. First, it must absorb spiritual energy to bring the weapon to life, and bind the parts of the cudgel together.'
You say, 'How can I do that?'
Takk says, 'You will use it to destroy the dark altar. The cudgel will then absorb the stolen spiritual energy as it escapes from its confinement. This should be your final act in your journey, and will return a weapon of great spiritual power back to Norrath. I have given your Eye of Thalger an additional enchantment, which should allow you to see creatures of total darkness... I fear such a power will be necessary. Good luck, and peace be with you.'
You say, 'My thanks. I will do as you have asked. Farewell.'
Quest text:
- I must destroy the dark spirits that are guarding the altar in the Hidden Vale.
- I should beware, as the dark ones are likely expecting me. I should watch for any surprises.
Collect up your friends (all must be level 80 to enter the instanced zone where your final battle will take place - those under 80 will be refused entry). I strongly recommend a full group, though I obtained mine with 5 in the party.
Travel to the Hidden Vale entrance (-2, 73, -14). This is a variation on the Shattered Vale zone, just north of Stormhold in Antonica.
The first mobs you will encounter are the Darkened Spirits (80^^^) that float around the vale. As soon as you kill one, your Quest Journal updates, "I must destroy the dark spirits that are guarding the altar in the Hidden Vale." Ensure that they are all destroyed before launching any attack against your final target.
The Shade of Sellok is formidable indeed, a level 85^^^ glowing red spectre who lurks by the defiled altar in the center of the druid ring.
At some time during the coming battle, Sellok will become invisible to all but yourself, as your eyes can see the spirit world. Therefore, during this fight, have everyone target you, and YOU target the Shade of Sellok.
As Sellok loses health, he will call forth shrieking phantasms (level 80) to gnaw away at the party. Do not lose focus and concentrate on destroying the evil master. Once he falls, his minions are easy to pick off.
Quest Update:
I have destroyed the Shade of Sellok.
I must destroiy Sellok's Altar.
Find the Loosely Bound Cudgel in your inventory and equip it. Only with this mystical item can you destroy the altar. Right click on the altar, and you will see a message.
As you approach the altar, you can feel the spiritual energy wisping by you as it is consumed. However, you can also feel the cudgel in your hand begin to come to life, and you note that it is beginning to absorb the power of the altar just by being near it. Perhaps now it is time to destroy the altar once and for all, and end the evil designs of Sellok and his Vision.

I have destroyed the dark altar and absorbed the escaping spiritual energy. The energy has brought the heart of the sudgel - the runic stone I found so long ago - to life.
I now possess the Cudgel of Obviation.
