Quest Level: 1

Rewards:
This is a special Brewday festival quest, run in March of 2008. It is not normally available.

Find the portal to Brell's Bar in Antonica (just outside of the North Qeynos bridge), or Commonlands (just outside of West Freeport). Although I have listed the quest as level 1, it automatically scales to your own adventure level. There is no fighting involved... just some drinking!

It is easy to spot Rasel Alechaser among the revelers, mainly because he has a glowing quest feather stuck to his head. He is usually chatting up the ladies too.

Rasel Alechaser says, 'Welcome back, Brasse! *hic* You certainly know yer ales, friend! Fact, I'm glad yer back! Mraugl Stonecrusher here is willing to wipe my bar tab if we brew up another keg of Brell's Everlasting Brew. Are ye up to it? I promise this will be the last time I ask for yer help.'
You say, 'Sure!'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'That's great! It shouldn't be too hard. I have everything I need except for the barley, hops, and water... I need ye to get those. The barley and hops ye can finagle from two farmers, and the water has to be a mix of pure water. I'll answer any questions ye have.'
You say, 'Tell me about the hops farmer.'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Ye can get the hops from a farmer named Prew Drowers in Thundermist Village in the Thundering Steppes. He has the best hops in all of Norrath, real high quality. He's a bit of an amateur brewer himself, but the stuff he makes is akin to pig swill. He won't just give ye the hops, so ye must find some way to distract him and steal them.'
You say, 'Tell me about the barley farmer.'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'If ye think I'm a drunk, wait 'til ye meet Jimmy Runner the barley farmer! What a lush! He's upstairs in the private lounge. Get 'im drunk enough and ye can get his barley... and maybe even his life savings, ha! The bartender in the private lounge will help ye.'
You say, 'Where do I get the water?'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'We need the purest water from Antonica, the Commonlands, Steppes, and Nektulos Forest. The purest water can be found near fish. Ye will see it, just keep yer eyes peeled or take a little swim. Make sure ye get a sample from each area.'
You say, 'I have everything I need. I'll be back.'

QUEST TEXT:
It's the Brewday festival! While visiting the Bar of Brell I met an old dwarven brewer named Rasel Alechaser. Rasel shared with me a story passed down through generations in his family of Brell's Everlasting Brew. It will be an arduous journey, rife with danger, but I have agreed to assist him in finding all of the components he needs to create the mythical ale.

I must journey through Norrath to find all of the components for Brell's Everlasting Brew.

* I need to go to the Thundering Steppes and find a farmer named Prew Drowers in the Thundermist Village. He is renowned for his hops. Rasel suggested I find some way to distract him and then pilfer his hops.

* In a private lounge in Brell's Bar, there is a farmer named Jimmy Runner. I must convince him to give me some of his top quality barley. Rasel suggested I speak with the bartender in the private lounge.

* I must travel to Antonica and gather a flask of pure water from any body of water.

* I must travel to the Commonlands and gather a flask of pure water from any body of water.

* I must travel to Nektulos Forest and gather a flask of pure water from any body of water.

* I must travel to the Thundering Steppes and gather a flask of pure water from any body of water.

THE BARLEY from FARMER JIMMY:

Head up the spiral stairs in Brell's Bar, and take the first door on the right to zone into the private lounge. Although Farmer Jimmy has a quest book over his head, you'll find he completely ignores you. Talk to the bartender, Dwayne Rockbeard, instead.

Dwayne Rockbeard says, 'Welcome, Brasse. I see you're the lucky one that gets to try to get the barley from Farmer Jimmy. I'll help you as much as I can. I have been serving up drinks to Jimmy for several years and I can offer you some advice. I can also tell you about the drinks we have to give him.'
You say, 'What is your advice?'
Dwayne Rockbeard says, 'Well, Jimmy gets in three moods when he is drunk. When he is just starting out, he is pretty relaxed and easy going. I doubt he will tell you anything then, since he still has too many of his wits about him.'
You say, 'You're probably right. What about when he has one too many?'
Dwayne Rockbeard says, 'Be careful... If you get him too drunk you'll be lucky to get anything other than a fight out of him. I've had to escort him out on several occasions. He's broken tables and chairs, thrown mugs around... He gets crazy.'
You say, 'So, when is the right time to get the barley from him?'
Dwayne Rockbeard says, 'Your opening will come when he achieves a nice, warm drunk. He will start to get loud and pretty much all around obnoxious, but still quite friendly. This is when you should go after the barley. He just can't keep from bragging. If you build him up a little and then ask for the barley, I bet my mother's favorite boots he will hand it right over to you. Make sure you get him sober before you start, 'cause he has been drinkin' a little already.'
You say, 'Sounds good, I'm ready to begin.'
Dwayne Rockbeard says, 'What kind of drink do you want to send to Jimmy?'
You say, 'A cup of strong black coffee.'

The pattern I used successfully was:
Coffee
3x Gnomish Spirits
2x Dwarven Ale

You'll know he's in the right frame of tipsyness when he glows green. Yah, I know. If I glow green it's time for a quick trip to the bathroom, but whatever, hehe. He will now happily talk to you.

Jimmy Runner says, 'Did ya know I'm the famous barley farmer, Jimmy Runner? Bet ya did, I am famous after all... What can I do ya fer?'
You say, 'I have heard of you. What say you give me a sample of that barley to back up your claim?'
Jimmy Runner says, 'What?! Ya don' believe me? I'll show you... Take this here barley, I'm tellin' ya there ain't any better to be had!'
You say, 'Thanks, Jimmy!'

Off you go!

-------------------------------------------------
THE HOPS - PREW DOWNS

Travel to the Thundering Steppes and thence to Thundermist Village. You'll find Prew Downs inside a building toward the southeast side of the village. His hops are on a table behind him, and he gets really agitated if you try to take any!

Clearly, Rasel was right, you need a distraction. Head directly west to the open barn where you will find Betsy (A mighty fine heifer); Prew mentions her in one of his random comments. Time to do some cow tipping! It can be tricky to get the right spot (and after all, she is a big cow), but by either double clicking or right clicking in the correct spot and choosing "tip the cow", you'll get her on her side.

Her loud "Mooooooooooo" of protest will bring Prew running. This is your cue to trot to his house and pilfer some of his hops (right click and harvest them).

-------------------------------------------------

THE WATER - ANTONICA, THUNDERING STEPPES, NEKTULOS FOREST, COMMONLANDS

This is by far the easiest bit. In each of these zones, in almost any body of water, be it ocean, river or pond, you should be able to find an animated harvestable called "essence of pure water". Collect one from each zone (just like any harvestable node).

-------------------------------------------------
THE RETURN TO RASEL

Rasel Alechaser says, 'Ye got everything?'
You say, 'Yes, here you are.'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Good work... I can't believe ye actually got the hops. I can start making the brew now. There is one last piece we need, though. I found this prayer and some notes with Barnaby's things. It's supposed to take ye to some place consta-creaticated by Brell himself. *hic* We need the Stein of Brell to enchant the brew. Read that prayer, then go to the sanctoratium and get the stein.'
You say, 'Wait, it can't be that easy. Tell me everything said in the notes you found.'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Well, let's see here... *hic* It says, Brell wasn't spoiled like the other gods, blah, blah, blah... His stein will probably be simple, blah, blah... No one that went to his sanitarium ever came back... blah, blah... *hic* Jus' get goin', I'm sure ye will be fine.'
You say, 'Um, okay...'

You now have a "Prayer to Brell" in your inventory. When ready, right click and activate it. In a golden flash, you'll be transported to the Sanctorium of Brell.

-------------------------------------------------
THE FINALE - THE TEST OF BRELL'S STEIN

Before you is a table with many ale mugs set upon it. Behind it is the Keeper of the Stein, who oversees the test of Brell. Do pay attention, for you must choose, and choose wisely. You WILL die if you choose poorly, so pay attention!

Keeper of the Stein says, 'You have come for Brell's Stein, I assume. If you choose wisely it is yours to take. If not, your life is mine to take.'
You say, 'Wait, wait... I feel ill prepared. Can you give me any hints?'
Keeper of the Stein says, 'Hints? Ill prepared? This is a holy trial, friend! Here you are, asking for a hint! Astonishing, truly. Here I've been dead for thousands of years waiting to test those worthy, and all I get are strings of fools and winos asking for hints! You people are really ruining the whole sanctity of this trial!'
You say, 'I'm sorry! Rasel Alechaser sent me. I didn't think it was a big deal.'
Keeper of the Stein says, 'Not a big deal!? This is a holy ritual in the sanctorium of a major god, and you thought it wasn't a big deal? I've devoted my life and death to this trial and that boozer keeps sending people here to their deaths. That crazy old sot will get his in the end!'
You say, 'So, may I have a hint?'
Keeper of the Stein says, 'Fine! Look, Brell was very much like your average dwarf. Like him, we have riches and we love them, but they do not define us and we do not often flaunt them. Also remember Brell used the stein daily and broke it often upon the heads of fool dwarves like your friend Rasel. That's all I can do for you. Now chose!'
You say, 'Um, thanks.'

There are six steins in all, but the one you seek is the most humble, the stein of a hardworking Dwarf, roughly crafted in solid wood. Right click on "A Wooden Stein" to select it.

You will be transported out of the instance and find yourself in Brell's Bar once more.

Rasel Alechaser says, 'Did ye get the stein?'
You say, 'Yes, here it is.'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Let me see it... That's amazing, an old wooden one, eh? Kinda boring... I was hoping it would be all gold and gem inlaid. *hic*'
You say, 'Is the brew done?'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'What? Ohhh, yeah... Here, we jus' got to pour it in this old stein, like so... Swish it around, pour it back into the keg and... I guess that's it. You want to try it first?'
You say, 'Sure!'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Is it good?'
You say, 'That's amazing!'
Rasel Alechaser says, 'Give me some of that... *hic* Whoa, that is amazing! You certainly earned a keg of this stuff. Here you go, now it's time for me to pass this around! Great work!'
You say, 'Thanks.'

be sure to take your choice of quest rewards, either the Brew Day Cloak or Keg of the Everlasting. The cloak is new for 2008, and that was my choice!

You are now utterly intoxicated, but if you can make it to the door and zone out, the magical alcohol will wear off instantly.
Time to go sleep it off till next year!
