For your reference: Shard of Fear map
When you enter Shard of Fear, you will see Ernie Gimblelock's corpse ahead and to the left, at +60 +4 +442. Poor little guy, I bet he was in a pick-up group!
DISCLAIMER: I urge you to take a full group and hereby notify you that you'll be fighting a LOT. Steer clear of the Samhain, and prepare to be set upon at every turn. Use the map I made specially for you, on our EQII Maps page.
Right click to inspect the corpse and,
"You receive Ernie Gimblelock's Adventuring Journal"
The journal will appear in your inventory as a green book. Right click to read the journal. When you reach the end (or just click "Last" if you are lazy or have a short attention span), you will be offered this quest.
"Upon investigating a dead Gnome in the Shard of Fear, I found a journal of his travels. He was an inventor (no surprise there) and had made many observations about this Shard of the Plane of Fear."
1. I should search for the Incorporeal-Visual Activators near the bone tower.
In the journal, Ernie mentions that he mus have dropped the goggles as he ran from the bone tower. There is such a tower to the west and slightly north of your location. Follow the road until you see the fork. Before the fork, you'll see a huge shattered relic - it used to be an hourglass. From this point, look west and you should see the tower and its torches through the ungainly trees.
Move toward it and you will enter the "Swale of Viscera." Yummy!
Just before the tower, you will see a sparkly on the ground, at +257 +13 +355. Double click on it to pick up the goggles.
"I am glad to have found Ernie's Incorporeal-Visual Activators! I wonder what they will show me!"
Congratulations! You are immediately rewarded, and the next quest pops up: Through Gnomish Eyes.
