The Saga of Yasva V'Alear

This is part of the Inquisitor Epic quest series.

Credits: Cykophrog Phartzalott, who is not a Froglock.

After examining your Crumbling Sathirian Scroll you must find someone to translate it. To do so you must first yourself speak Sathirian, if you do not you must go and do the Mysterious Black Tome collection in Fens and start that language questline (don’t worry it is short and quick).

Now that you speak Sathirian go to Outer Sebilis and speak with Loremaster Hax (-366, -111, 1049). He is unwilling to help you at this time so you must turn the populace against him. Find and hail 8 an Outer Sebilis resident. You will have to have a short conversation with each and turn them against the Loremaster.

After turning the populace against him, Loremaster Hax is in a much more “conversational” mood and will deal with you. He will send you back to the Jarsath Wastes to obtain more information.

In the Jarsath Wastes you must now procure an Officer’s Report. This has been confirmed to drop off undead near Venril’s Crown and undead near the ruins just north of Ganak’s Battlement in Jarsath Wastes. The report will have you look for the remains of Yasva V’Alear.

The skeleton of Yasva V’Alear is found in the ruins just north of Ganak’s Battlement at the top of the stairs ( -331, -61, -503 ). It can sometimes take a few minutes for her to spawn if she has been killed a short while ago. Hail the skeleton and you must now kill it (she is an 85 ^^ heroic so bring a few pals). The skeleton will drop the Journal of Yasva V’Alear. Examine and read the book for the next update and more clues to the location of the pieces of Penitent’s Absolution.

The first piece to aquire is the Mace Hilt. It is located not to far away in the Jarsath Wastes in Skyfire. At the top of the hill at ( -1524, 226, 497 ) you will find a drake nest that is clickable. Gathering from the nest will get you your Mace Hilt.

You must now find a craftsman of great enough skill to reassemble Penitent’s Absolution. The book hints at a family of iksar in Freeport so head to Scale Yard. In Scale yard you will find Weaponsmith Xass ( 6, -3, 29 ). He will tell you he is retired but for the price of 5 plat he will come out of retirement and help you reassemble Penitent’s Absolution.

Your next steps take you to Chardok to find the flail heads. Byzola Flail Head and Dymetreax Flail Head are both found in Chardok off of a Caroeth battlemage and a Caroeth battlepriest near the red portal.

You must now revitalize both flail heads with the power of fear, so head off to the Cave of Fear in the Feerrott. Inside you will find Othixis ( -1911, -25, 482 ). Othixis will have you go back to Chelsith to find 5 tablets with which to find the spell to fill the flail heads with the power of fear.

Go back to Chelsith and you will want a reasonably clear instance of this. Hopefully your timer from your earlier trip will not have expired and you can jump back in. Otherwise find someone with a cleared zone willing to let you go in, or just do another run in Chelsith to clear it out again. The 5 tablets are found:
- near the entrance ( 15, 4, 390 )
- in a pool ( 162, 1, 250 )
- at the Shrine of the Deep ( 435, 44, 130 )
- on the ramp near the Shrine of the Deep altough on the other side of the ledge ( 346, 16, 148 )
- in the water (357, -22, 131)

Head back to Othixis in the Cave of Fear.

Your next update will be for the Mace Pommel which is hidden among the burynai in Kunzar Jungle. Head for the caves housing the rubble-rabble burynai near the Abandoned Village sokokar post (located by the Kunzar Jungle druid ring also if you can get a gate opened there). Kill burynai untill they have coughed up your Mace Pommel and head back yet again to Othixis in the Cave of Fear.

Othixis will tell you that the Pommel is thirsting for blood so you will have to find a suitable sacrifice. You will have to kill 75 “inconsequential individuals,” and what is more inconsequential than some reet slaves? So head back to Kunzar Jungle and go into Sebilis.

You will have to kill 75 of the heroic frogloks within Sebilis (sorry but the solo undead froggies near the entrace don’t update the quest). This may be the most difficult part of the entire quest-line because you will have to find a group both able and willing to kill 75 reet slaves which will hurt their Synod Reet faction. The slaves are located in the slave quarters (at the end of the east wing of the top level), the kitchen (middle of the west wing of the top level), and in the mines (south-eastern part of the lower level). All the slaves will have the “quest update” book over their head and will show up on your map as well if you have those ui options turned on.

After quenching the thirst of the Mace Pommel you will now head to Karnor’s Castle for The Crown of the Flail. This is located on Commander Jorah in the Commander’s Quarters in Karnor’s Castle. This room is located on the north-east section of the top level of Karnor’s Castle.

Now it is time to cause some unrest for the Sarnak. Head to Timorous Deep and slay 8 sarnak for their badges. There are a few soloable near Gorowyn but the easiest place is the Chrykori Village. Take a griffon to Chykori Island and head east to the village. There are many level 10 guards in and around the village so it is quick and easy to get your badges.

After getting the badges from these Sarnak head to Chardok and kill 8 sarnak there to place the badges on the corpses and sow dissent between the different groups of sarnak. There are several soloable sarnak near the entrance (about 4 or 5, so clear and wait for repops, shouldn’t take too long).

You have now collected and properly attuned all the pieces of the flail Penitent’s Absolution so head back to Weaponsmith Xass in Scale Yard. After you turn over all the pieces he will reassemble your epic weapon. But who said anything about being honorable? He will tell you he is keeping the weapon and will get it blessed with the power of Hate and then teleports away!

Head to his hideout in Nektolos Forest near where the Avatar of Hate spawns ( -1307, 48, -1509 ) Near there you will find an anvil on the ground, click on it to gate to Xass’s Hideout. Inside you will have to kill Xass.

This is going to be one of the hardest fights you will ever do solo. Xass is a level 85 ^^ heroic mob. I have heard that while you cannot zone in any friends to help you, if you and another inquisitor are both stuck at this point and group you will zone into the same instance and be able to duo him.

To kill Xass you will need all your tricks and a LOT of mana. So try to get a heart and shard from friendly necro’s and conjurers. Get some mana potions and Signet of Replenishment (and/or Greater Replenishment) if your guild level is high enough to purchase these from the city merchant. While fighting him I made sure that Yaulp was off (while useful for dps it just drains way too much mana). This is a long fight, Xass has a lot of hitpoints and he heals himself. If you see him start to cast use your Smite attack (either spell or the CA version) to interrupt him. Use Blasphemy so he gets a reactive hit when he heals himself and gets stunned. Make sure to get the 2 strongest god miracles up and ready for this fight. And don’t forget to keep enough mana so you can Verdict him at 10%.

Congratulations! After killing Xass you will receive your Penitent’s Absolution and Xass’s Notebook. The Notebook will give you the quest for the mythical upgrade to Penitent’s Absolution called The Legacy of Yasva V’Alear.
