Put up a Rift forum in the InnMates section as well, in case y'all want extra elbow room.

I think just five people (one group).

I don't mind at all applying to rejoin OTG if no one has the time or inclination to lead a Rift Guild for us. They are good folks. =)

The only drawback is if anyone has young friends (under 24), as OTG is fairly strict on the age thing.

Eric and I have characters on Belmont as well, both Defiant and Guardian.

No clue if server names will be the same at launch of course.

There is so little difference between the sides that I could play either, but I am a bit partial to the Guardians because I like Dwarves and prefer their elf look (unlike Wren I don't care for the blue-grey elves).

Anyone have the time and energy to run a wee InnMates guild there? As gimpy as we are, I have a lot more fun with you all than any other folks. =)

If not, we can apply to join the OTG (Old Timers Guild), a very good multi-game guild.
Wren plans to join them in live and is in their Beta guild.
5  Massively Multiplayer Games / EverQuest II / Re: Interesting possible hack... on: January 06, 2011, 11:04:30 PM
Uhhh, only if it was their fault that you were hacked!

It takes our CS teams a lot of time to track activity on an account and determine what was taken so that they can restore items. At present, it costs us $25-40 per hacked account, and the number of hacks are increasing. The reason for the slow turnaround is because they usually have a fairly long list that they have to restore, and you've been added to the end of ye liste. Luckily, they are almost always able to restore accounts/characters to their previous status.

There are many ways in which hackers can gain account info. I talked to a gold seller (grey market, but not a hacker) at a conference last year. He said one of the main ways in which hackers are now getting account info is by silently hacking any number of fansites and media sites... turns out that very often, people use the same account name and password for websites as they do for their game accounts.

The point is that hackers are VERY smart, very devious, and have no regard for privacy or personal rights.

Sometimes they delete characters. Sometimes they clean out guild banks and personal banks. Sometimes they just use characters for money laundering. Sometimes they use the account to create a ton of level one characters in order to spam gold seller ads.

WoW accounts are the most targeted (Eric had his WoW account hacked twice within a month), but our games are not immune.
Without revealing information that I cannot reveal, we are working on a way to improve account security at SOE. It is still a few months off, and until then, given the rising tide of hackers, I strongly recommend that everyone change their account password once a month for EVERY login they have.

I have been changing my game account passwords monthly for some time; working at SOE, where we are also obliged to change passwords on our work accounts, got me into the habit, and it is less of a pain than I had initially imagined.

Eric and I will pick up the game, it is certainly worth the price of admission and thirty days, then it has to sell us on the long term value!

I plan to play a Warlock/Cloromancer as my main, with an as-yet undefined tanky tank as secondary.
Eric has enjoyed his Ranger/Marksman and will likely carry that live.

I'd like to play the Guardian side (Dwaaaaaarf!!!), but I know Trice is partial to the purple elfinks on the Defiants.

Tyr had mentioned some interest in the game as well, so we may have half a tiny guild sorta kinda available!
7  General Category / How To Join These Forums / HOW TO GET APPROVED FOR POSTING (SPAMMERS GO AWAY) on: September 20, 2010, 09:52:45 PM
Folks, the insane number of spammers who apply to become members on this forum has become ludicrous, even with captcha words to try to stem the tide.
I cannot keep up, and I am sure that a few LEGIT folks are among the over 500 applicants sitting there now.

If you really do want to post here, and you are not some jerk spammer who gets paid to join as many sites as possible, please heed the following:

1. Register for this forum in the usual manner.

2. IMMEDIATELY send me an email, to the following address: My character name + at symbol + the name of this site dot com.  I guess that also serves as a skill testing question. Sort of.

3. In the email, state why on earth you'd want to post here, in the quiet halls of slackerdom, and what game is your current favorite. Just cause I am curious.

4. Include the forum handle you want to have approved.

5. Click send.

That last part is important.

EDIT: I will also accept a reasonably coherent post to this thread in lieu of step 2 above.  Again, be sure you list your forum handle so that I can find you before my regular purges of the spammer list masquerading as forum hopefuls.

This is what it will take to save you from languishing in the limbo of the site's "waiting to be approved" list.
For those of you who ended up there, I really am sorry. Blame the east-euro-trash who got into the queue.

Thankee!

8  Massively Multiplayer Games / EverQuest II / Re: EQII & 64 bit Windows 7 on: September 08, 2010, 09:05:10 PM
Brakk suggests that you check to ensure that you are running in Admin Mode if you are using Windows 7. He says that all MMOs have to be run in Admin Mode.
To test, right click on the EQII program icon and select "Run as Adminisrator" and see if that works.
To save having to do that every time, right click on the EQII icon, go to Properties, go to the compatibility tab and check "Run this program as an administrator."

You can also contact EQII Tech Support if you continue to have problems. =)

Dude, you have to come HERE to get your birthday wishes!
Get on it man!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the loads of additional wisdom you've packed on in the past year.

Mystics are SLOW ARSED to solo. That is my main, I know whereof I speak, hehe.

Warden is a very solid class. If you don't like shapechanging, you can hit P (persona) and set "hide my illusion form."

Just take your time and try out everything you think you may like... it will be one of the OTHER classes you end up with, hehehe.

11  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Politics on: June 14, 2010, 04:17:02 PM
The only real connection between what happens on this site and my job at SOE is the fact that I simply don't have the time to make comics and post as I once did.

I have very rarely had to delete or edit posts on these forums. Heck, Kwee has deleted more posts than anyone, and they've all been his own, hehehe. The only posts I'd moderate or delete are those which contain personal attacks against an individual or company, or if excessive vitriol is used. I have been known to edit out foul language and replace it with *beer* or some such...

People stopped talking politics here simply because people have, for the most part, stopped coming here. No one likes speaking to an empty room. =)

13  Massively Multiplayer Games / EverQuest II / Re: GU56 changes that are upcoming that i'm not happy about :( on: May 04, 2010, 11:41:59 PM
The reasons stated by Dev for disabling the old starting areas are valid: they do not offer the same robust, nicely geared experiences that the new zones do.  With Faydark, Darklight and Gorowyn already in place, it was time for another new starting zone for the good races: Halas. I do believe you'll enjoy it when you start a newbie. Aren't you almost out of character slots by now? <grins>

Personally, I think it would be cool if the old zones were repurposed into mini-group instances one day, but hey, I am just one wish-maker among many.

Regarding the mounted combat, I only had to watch Wren ride into combat once, flailing around like she was having a seizure, to want it turned off. WoW and Warhammer both automatically dismount you when you enter combat, and I really prefer that. Disclaimer: I had absolutely nothing to do with this dev decision!

As the mounted combat discussion progressed, the Producer, Dave Georgeson, has stated that they may look into making this a client-side setting... meaning that *I* can switch it off and be happy, while YOU can leave it on and watch people flail while their mounts block everything from sight, hehehe. If they can actually make the client-side option work, we'll both be happy. Stay tuned!

14  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Where's EQ3? on: May 04, 2010, 11:30:10 PM
Here's the insider information on EQ3/Next: I haven't got any, hehe.

Not a word of a lie: even though I work for SOE, all I can tell you is that there are people working on the next concept, but no one has any idea of the scope, style or other details of the next big thing.

It's a MYSTERY!
I am as intrigued as anyone else.

15  Massively Multiplayer Games / Warhammer Online / Whur we be at in 2010: Badlands (Order), Volkmar (Destruction) on: April 18, 2010, 09:39:52 AM
Warhammer is down to four servers. When they last consolidated, early this year, all characters were moved from inactive servers to one of the four remaining.

If your characters were moved involuntarily, they are eligible for a free transfer.
JUST in case you decide you want to play this very fun (and much improved!) game, you can find Brakk and I on:

Order: Badlands
Destruction: Volkmar

We haven't formed a guild on either server because there is only the two of us... and we haven't joined a guild because we haven't found one we liked enough AND because we are just not regular enough with our WH playtime.

;-)#
Brasse/Brazze

ps: To initiate transfer, go to My Account on Warhammer and follow the obvious buttons.
For the Server Transfer FAQ thread on the official forums: clicky here.
