Shocked Ouch.  I'm with the Troll.

The art itself is lovely though!

Not even if I was blind, stinking drunk could I manage to get a tatoo. Maybe if I was totally numb because I was dead could I stand the jabbing stabbing pain of needles going in and out of my skin over and over and over and over again.

I'll stick with the ones you get in Cracker Jack boxes. Yes, I'm a total sissy when it comes to needles, and pain in general. Don't ask how I made it thru childbirth, twice, heheheheh. Your designs are super-duper nifty, tho, and if I ever could bring myself to get a tat, I'd certainly want you to draw it!

I will certainly draw tattoos on commission for other people (I did a great many before ever getting my own first tattoo); most people don't want to pay the additional money for custom art in addition to the tattooing fee, so they end up with something not quite right. I would imagine my drawings would range from $40-250, depending on complexity. <watches everyone sidle away fast>

I'd never allow a second rate or stock design on myself, because a tattoo is a permanent symbol on the skin, not like a necklace, hairstyle, shirt or pants that you can easily throw out when the fashion changes.

Likewise, the last thing I asked when we went to this shop was "how much"? I was far more interested in the skin artist's SKILL than his hourly rate. =) Mine ended up costing $230, and I tipped the artist generously, because I was very happy with it.

I've seen some very nice art on people in very bad places - meaning, places that later in life tend to... not be as youthful as when the tattoo was done.  Do they take that into account when they do them??  Probably not.

I have a friend who was well-endowed and got a tattoo that peeked out of a low-cut shirt...a very cute little rosebud... then she lost a LOT of weight and well, it's not a cute little rosebud anymore, if you catch my meaning.  More of a long-stem.  She says she wishes she'd taken that into consideration before she got it.

I'll stick to letting my kids draw smiley faces on my arm with washable markers, thank  you very much. Smiley

Hehehe, yes, that is a prime example of why people should really think out their PERMANENT decorations before applying them.

Heh, yeah... I *did* consider what my body might look like in 40 more years with a tattoo on it, and that was one of the reasons I chose my upper arm and ankle.

I am not likely to get a tattoo on my jiggly thighs, my various-sized belly, or other parts that might not age so well.

My arms haven't significantly changed their size in 20 years, so I figured that was a safe bet. Smiley

As for the pain, it is not bad. My second tattoo actually even felt GOOD. Maybe it was all those endorphins or something. Because of that, I was extra looking forward to this monkey one. Alas, it was not wholly pleasurable, though for the most part it did not hurt either. Once we got past the third hour, it did get quite uncomfortable, though talking really did take my mind off of it.

I showed it to the boys yesterday. Trevor tells me that his first tattoo will be "of a puppy. Probably playing with a ball or something." Man, is he so cute.

happy day,

I'm so jealous. My hubby HATES tatoos, piercings (even earrings), and just about anything that changes the way a person naturally looks (although he dosen't seem to mind that I shave my legs!!). I would love to get another tatoo, but it might cause serious marital disharmony.  I refuse to not wear makeup and let my hair go natural, so I guess you have to pick your battles!!

Can't wait to hear what other mischief you two have been up to!!

Is that the white dove of peace plummeting in a firey ball to its death?

Just asking.
