I never thought these people actually existed...

Hi! This is my first post here and I figure I should start off by sharing an experience I had recently in WoW. Yeah, I know there is a forum for that game but I figured this is general enough that a similar situation could be applied to any MMOG.
I was in a Mana Tombs PUG because I wanted Consortium reputation. After our initial paladin tank drops for some unknown reason, we get a Warrior replacement. This guy... was interesting.
He was a pretty good tank but it was the things he said that made him stand out.
1) There were a couple bad pulls that resulted in wipes. Now, Mana Tombs is a very linear dungeon but somehow, inexplicibly, the Warrior would get lost and need someone to come get him.
2) About halfway through, he needs to go afk for a bit. When he comes back he says his girlfriend was at the door and wanted sex. He told her he was doing a dungeon and she dropped the "What's more important: Me or the Game?" He said his answer was the game and closed the door on her.
The fact he's still there and wanting to game makes it sort of seem like he was joking at the time... but later he says she's outside banging on the door. I convince him to at least let her in. I got the impression they might actually live together.
Apparently some other debate between the Warrior and his girlfriend and he was able to play a bit longer on the "virtue" that he had lied to her and said we were currently competing in a tourament for $5,000.
The last bombshell he drops though is he had a son that also played WoW and had offered him as a possible replacement even though we were right up to the final boss.
We barely manage to beat the last boss after a few tries and he drops himself without gaining any of the quest drops he said he was after.
I really wish I had a log so I could share but there it is.
Anyone else come across people like this?

I don't know what to say about that other than:
ADD THAT TO THE LIST OF REASONS I REFUSE TO DO PICK UP GROUPS!
Who knows if he was telling the truth or lying, but either way as a person he has some serious issues.

At least it makes for an interesting, if disconcerting, story.

When I read "I never thought these people actually existed...", I thought he meant US.
WHEW
, our secret is still safe.
Seriously though, there are a lot of maladjusted people in every walk of life. We just don't see them much, unless we are foolish enough to rely on pick-up-groups, hehehe.
It is sad, it is a lesson, and it is not as uncommon as one might think.
Good luck to that fellow in his lifetime, things are not looking promising.

I would like to know how in gods name you get lost in the mana tombs. It is not kinda linear its ONE LONG hallway. There are no branches there is only one way to go sure it bends but you cannot leave that one hallway you will if you follow the hallway either wind up at the end boss or the exit of the zone there are no offshoots.

At that point in time I was between guilds so pick up groups were my only option.
My girlfriend was urging me to feign a disconnect while I shared this experience as it happened but the rest of the group was decent enough that I'd feel bad for abandoning them.

Can you get me his girlfriend's address? I think I might have a solution that will make both of them happy.

Reading the claims the person made, it makes me think it was probably 'the son' playing in the first place. The stories sound like someone who is trying to sound 'adult' or at least someone who 'has a life' outside of the game. I met a lot of people like that in college. They're decent people, but just seem to think they need to make up (or heavily embellish) stories to make themselves more interesting.
I'd figure it was just a person needing to try and seem more interesting by having someone after them for sex, but not being able to find their way down a corridor also implies they'd never played much before. That's why I figure it was most likely a kid who was playing on a parental account.
But, well, ya never know I guess!

I'm inclined to agree with the good Captain above on this one. A lot of people seem to think that they have to impress others especially in MMO's for some weird reason. Maybe they on't like who they are in RL or they just want to feel important. In any case just chalk it up to another nut and make sure you don't go dungeon crawling with him again.
