There are links to this story on almost every major site (Yahoo News, FoxNews etc.) or here's a direct link to the local news stations reporting on YouTube.

I thought it was 2008, not 1408...

Unless someone left out some really important facts about this story....it is pure silliness, idiocy, and a grand waste of time!  With all else going on in this world you would think they could come up with something more impressive than getting a burr up their butts for a magic trick.

Nice impression there WarOrk... I could almost hear the accent!

It sounds like there were other issues with his performance.  I'm sure if that's true there is some documentation and the school (wisely) doesn't feel compelled to share it with the media.  If he was dismissed for that "magic" trick alone I think he's going to find plenty of attorneys that will be happy to collect some money from the school district for him.  If he is an "at will" employee that can let him go for any reason or no reason.  If there isn't a reason then it's generally best to just keep quiet about it.  I'm sure the school dsitrict has beeen well informed about how to let an employee go.

But if that little trick is the only thing they let him go over then I am just astounded.  That's just plain stupid.

Whatever happened to seperation of church and state... You shouldn't be able to get fired regardless of religion or if you have a few magic tricks.  That isn't right.

Preforming a magic trick has nothing to do with religion unless you're saying something like "Soandso or Suchandsuch gives me the power to do this".

This almost sounds like one of those idiotic "Zero Tolerance" policies taken to apply to a teacher. While it sounds like there were other issues like not following curricullum (something a substitute is supposed to do) and allowing "unapproved computer use", which probably translates to laptops (which means students could be looking up inappropriate material on school grounds). Both are pretty serious charges.

To pick "Wizardry" as the cause for him getting fired is lunacy.
