First, before I forget : http://gutenberg.net.au/plusfifty-a-m.html#letterH.

Ok, now we can go on Smiley.

I am actually leaning more and more to Conan side. Spellborn looks great and sounds great but....it's Conan. Still remember reading old black and white comics, waiting for the it to come out on friday and reading 4 pages inserted in the middle of the comic book, one episode went on for months.
Also, I am kinda confused about Tcos's longevity of the game, I mean what can you do once you are highest level? Not really interested in PvP, at least as main goal, and haven't really seen anything else that can hold me for longer than a week.

Anyway, few months after Conan coming out, you can probably find me somewhere as a confused barbarian...

Wierd Coincedence there Bear. For several weeks now I have been reading online Novels, some Graphic Novels but mostly writen Free novels. I am currently reading this series, which Is quite good, if you like Sci-Fi with just a little, yet enough humor thrown in. http://worlds-apart.net/books.htm

And the coincedence is that I recently visited this site. http://www.promo.net/pg/

 Grin

Aye, I can see that may well be a problem, as well as having a Quest driven game being too quest driven, but I hope the Lore will make up for that. My fairly recent dip into Cabal was all Quests and did become tedious, however they were kill ones, so probably not the same. I just hope the quests are of a good mix type, and that Immersive hunting is possible, as that is a big draw for me in MMO's.

The Ranger Class in Conan looks better on paper so far, as relates to what I would normaly choose. So I look forwards to both games going Gold, and reading up on feedback once they do before I make up my mind completely, as I do love Ranging/Exploration and fully Immersing myself in the PvE side of a game, and also dislike PvP. The only time I did any PvP was in CoH/CoV, but that was in the Arenas, and was just for a bit of fun with the people I was playing the game with at the time.

It may prove that Conan has the edge in my type of playstyle, time will tell I guess. I have played MMO's for quite some time now, and look to both these games as a way of squeezing at least another two to three years MMO interest out of. I hope at least one of them does not dissapoint, as I dont see anything of interest personaly other than 'Infinity' set for 2009.

I did see another space MMO in development recently, its still in early Alpha, but cannot recall the name and forgot to Bookmark it. Something like Black Prophesy or some such. Most of the Sci-Fi games I have looked at recently have not drawn me in, except Eve for a short time, but Infinity looks a good Hybrid for the future, in terms of the look and feel of Eve with a more ranging type of gameplay other than the predominate PvP side of Eve.

As always, time will tell Wink and to quote my own sig, 'The Journey is Everything', so fingers crossed that the journey over the next three years, (which may well be the last three years I play MMO's if the development does not continue to impress, will have some happy endings and nice and enjoyable Oasis in between. Smiley

OKAY!!
Here's something fun. My RL Friends and I are starting an AoC guild and we want other good hardcore gamers to make up the heart of our guild. if you are interested in this please send me an email at nebraska_romeo@yahoo.com and put the title as Age of Conan so I know not to just randomly delete it as junk mail.

The Guild site will be up soon as well and I'll get the link for this on here =)

I have been out of MMO gaming for a while now and think I will give this Conan thing a try.  I looked at the old Consortium site and didn't really see mention of it.  Maybe I shoudl check that again, but fate somehow pointed me here.  For those that do decide to play Age of Conan, let me know what server you all end up in.

Hey Ringo Smiley

It's looking like I will end up there at some point, though not on initial release. I am going to let the game settle in some, had my fair share of new game releases and the initial bumpy rides therein over the years to want to endure another game launch period. :p

Age of Conan specs, from the community site:

    Minimum configuration (1024x768, detail reduced)

    * OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
    * Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
    * RAM: 1GB
    * Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better
    * Video memory: 128MB
    * DVD-ROM: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
    * HARD DRIVE SPACE: 30GB

      Recommended configuration (Up to 1280X960, most features on)
    * OS: Windows XP SP 2 or Windows Vista
    * Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
    * RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
    * Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or equivalent
    * Video memory: 512MB
    * DVD-ROM: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
    * HARD DRIVE SPACE: 30GB

The minimum specs aren't TOO scary, however the recommended specs are pretty ridiculous...  And that hard drive space requirement is a little bit overboard.

Oh yea, and if you have a fileplanet subscription, which I doubt most do, you can sign up for the "open" beta here: http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/ageofconan/

     I think everyone looks to much at all the technical issues before playing games and less at all the things that make an RPG a great game.  That being open ended..   Sure there was that mention of the whole sex issue, but come on, do you really think they would allow rape in a game?  Having something like that in a MMO would totally diminish sells and give the game an AO (Adults Only) rating.  If you want my honest opinion about the subject, I could really care less.  I have been playing mature rated games since Wolfenstein came out on PC.  Granted I was only around 8-10 years old at the time, but I knew that it was only a game.  There is much to be said about violence in video games and the media.  Simple fact is that it is what happens in real life everyday.  I can tell you from personal experience that the world we live in is drenched in all the topics that are outlined in just about every Conan book that was released. If you don't believe me, take a 13 month tour to Iraq in mechanized infantry and you can find out for yourself, but I would suggest the easier way of watching the evening news Cheesy

     But, with all the drama aside Grin I think Conan will be a great game that appeals to a 'mature' audience. I could care less about interfaces and all the like cause it is a MMO.   I have yet to see a MMO that is perfect at launch,  I have played Ultima Online, Everquest, Anarchy Online, Asherons Call, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest 2, Guildwars, and Vanguard.  None of these games were even close to perfect at their launch times, but I stuck with them because I'm a die hard gamer.  Everyone who goes and plays a game of D&D with a friend knows that the DM with the most experience will make a great campaign.  Take someone making their first campaign though and there will be flaws, but with a little time all the flaws will be worked out.  So try not to look to much at the technical issues and see the game for what it really is then make your decisions based upon that.  One thing you have to have with this industry is infinite patience.  Otherwise, your going to be disappointed with every release.

The HD requirement is big but vanguard was just about as bad and if you really take a look how much eq2/wow/eq1 take up on your hd you will see that they all eat up a pretty hefty chunk of hard drive real estate.

Its the price you pay for all the spiffy graphics these days.

Difference is that WoW took less when released and then added to it slowly, EQ2 was 7GB first DL, and then also added to it (over 2 days as it downloaded *sigh*). 30 GB at once..... not sure I can find that much at the moment. Time to get a truckload of DVDs and start burning old stuff.

But I do intend to try it out, cause for now only two games interest me: AoC and Aion. Aion looks very nice, but I am afraid it will be standard korean grindfest which turns me away a little.

PS And Lotro, but Codemasters seem to have a problem with my card and I gave up trying to clear it.

Edit: If anyone wants to /point and /laugh, just do it: after 4 months of moaning about payment problems, I noticed Lotro can be payed over Pay Pal.....

The game won't take an entire 30gb, thats for sure.  I think the assassin's creed requirement was 12gb and it actually takes up about 6gb, so HOPEFULLY the AoC size will be more like 15gb or less.

It may the initial install of vanguard was I believe 17 gb hehe. Some of the new mmos are getting pretty gigantic for install sizes but frankly given how fast hard drives are going up in size there is not much incentive to compress stuff anymore.

Problem currently is, I have EVE, WoW, EQ2, Lotro, Supreme Commander, Diablo 2 and Spellborn installed.....

I'd like it to be smaller.

I agree with Bearmug, like he said before digital distribution is a big factor.  No one, not even the companies, want the players to have to download that much crap.  And yea, I often uninstall a game before finishing because I want to keep above my last 50 gigs (though usually its something I quit playing for a long time).
