Oh, it doesn't look that bad.  Would you rather it have particle-board-and-christmas-light sets and polyester pantsuits?  Wink

I always look at these remakes this way:  if they'd had the technology and resources back in the sixties to do the original episodes this way, would they have?  I think Roddenberry would have.   Does it necessarily mean they would have been as popular?  No... but as long as they don't screw the story up  (*cough*SWprequels*cough*), I'll be fine with it.

What's bothering you about it?  I'm curious. Smiley

Sorry Carynne, wasn't talking about the story line at all.  Hence the title.  Maybe I was being too obtuse.  I meant the "style" of the movie.  It looks like one of those in-your-face-too-much-going-on-camera-shaking-puking-in-my-popcorn types of cinematographic styles.  That and the acting looks very soulless.  I have seen many blogs and post where folks think Kirk is being played pretty much as a (not my words) douchebag.

Major flaws:
- Kirk and Uhura having an affair?
- Kirk and Spock didn't meet before Enterprise
- Kirk having his FULL bridge crew+Scottie before Enterprise

This movie looks like combination of XXX (the one with Vin Diesel i mean) and teen movie in ST setting. Combined with how studio treated trekkies..... I don't see it ever entering ST canon.

The website ate my earlier reply!

Okay, that makes sense, Atherin - I guess if I'd actually seen the movie in question, I would have understood your reference.

I don't consider myself a Trekker by any means but I'm pretty sure that Chekov didn't show up until later in the series.  So why is he there now?  That bugs me.

But... is it Trekker or Trekkie?   And does it make me one if I know that his first name was Pavel?  Wink

Trekkie:  Has an authentic style ST:TOS uniform in their closet... with matching foam ear extentions.

Trekker:  Can tell you how many milliCochranes are generated per second by a Class III warp field at warp 5.

LOL.  Thanks for the clarification.  Makes perfect sense.

Guess I would lean more towards Trekker-ness - I don't know a milliCochrane from a millipede, but I do understand where the term comes from.  Wink

Soooooo Atherin... How many is it?

So does "Trekkier" mean that you have the uniform AND can answer the question or does it just mean that you spent more on your costume?

Trekkie means you know the answer OR bought the uniform. Trekker has both and actually understands what he is saying.

Anyway, seems I was wrong in my last post, it actually looks like they are on Enterprise. Which is even less likely cause what idiot would give one of 11 most advanced starships of the time to a bunch of teenagers? It is even more unbelievable than Spock losing temper.

So, who here can tell me how the Heisenberg Compensator works?  (Half points if you know what piece of technology uses one.) Wink

A cochrane is the unit for subspace distortion.  A ship traveling at Warp 5 generates a warp field with a field variance of 87 millicochranes.

Quote
Heisenberg compensators remove uncertainty from the subatomic measurements, making transporter travel feasible. Further technology involved in transportation include a computer pattern buffer to enable a degree of leeway in the process. When asked "How does the Heisenberg compensator work?" by Time magazine, Star Trek technical adviser Michael Okuda responded, "It works very well, thank you."

How about those who made their own Star Trek costumes, and who made tribbles to give out to all her classmates at the end of grade 7?

Yeaaahhhh, that'd be me.

All I can say about the movie is that it is a DAMN sight better than the lame pablum offered to us on TV a while back in the series "Enterprise." I am not going to pass judgment until I see the movie myself.

As far as fan sites go? Whiners. We are a dime a dozen... make that a dime a gross. Those who deserve exclusives get them - that is a PR decision. Big deal. People read the sites that they care about for opinion and commentary, after viewing the flashy exclusives on a sterile site.

Now give me a GOOD MMOG where I can be a Klingon, and all will be well with the world.

Unfortunately after viewing the trailer they seem to be trying to substitute special effects for a coherent story that follows the chronology as put forth in TOS and the movies.  This one I'll probably wait til they bring it out on regular TV to see.

I'm starting to believe I must be the only one who liked that show.

Nope, I actually like Enterprise too.  Heck, the opening theme song, while a departure from the 'traditional' song grew on you after awhile, especially if you listened to the words.  I thought that it was a well done show and enjoyed the feel of 'getting back to the basics' that it presented as opposed to the touchy feely TNG and such.
