Wow.  Given the warning about graphic violence, I thought maybe this was going to be a rant about the tragedy in Darfur or the Arab-Israeli conflict, but it turns out you just really hate Alienware and have graphically threatened to torture their employees.  Why would you even post that?  Better still, why would you repost it so more people would read it?

It's called catharsis.

I understand the need for catharsis.

Once, when I was going through a very dark time, catharsis-ing to whoever would listen, I happened to hear a talk by a Buddhist monk who asked "How many people need to feel bad for you to feel good?"   That question resonated very deeply with me.  It was a shock to suddenly see myself as someone who sought to feel good by loading all of my burdens onto other people.  I began to question the ethics of catharsis, though I do not question that everyone feels the need for it.

Catharsis would be taking boxing lessons and pinning pictures of Alienware employees to the punching bag, not subjecting random forum readers to vitriol.  It should be an internal cleansing not an external one.

If it is internalized, it isn't a catharsis, is it? I mean, it was originally used in dramas in Ancient Greece, and is the term of art today as used in both film and theater to describe the feeling the audience has when the climax has happened and the denoument runs its course. I have been a writer for years now, and use writing as a method to do all sorts of things -- from making money (technical writing and childrens books) to castigating those I find to be deserving of verbal vitriol. If you were, indeed, offended by my rant, my apologies. If you followed the link, you were curious maybe, to see what it was I had to say. In that case, that would remove you from the classificaton of "random reader", no? You would then become an "involved reader" -- at least to some extent. If you are still offended, again, I tender my apologies. If you're still offended after I have apologized twice, tough.
