I would be in favor of putting the stocks in school yards! You wanna bully little kids? Spend each morning and afternoon in the stocks! Rather play video games than do your assignments? Ditto!

Reginald, I really cannot tell if you're joking or not, so I'm going to hope that you're not. I now declare this thread officially DERAILED! As usual by Quinatan.

As someone that had to listen 'Damn kids, you know what they did today at school?' speech too many times... I want to get corporal punishment back
.
I know two kids that got used to doing whatever they want in school, without teachers or even school principal doing a thing, and then tried it outside school. Let's say that 2 weeks in hospital didn't teach them much cause they were back in the hospital next month.
Anyway, congratulations
.

I think hospitilisation is punishment enough, don't you? But still, you shouldn't beat kids. Just punish them with huge detentions and extra homework, that'll do the trick.

You misread what I posted. They DIDN'T get punished, so they thought their behaviour is ok. Instead of sitting gently for an hour, they ended up in hospital.
Personally, I'd prefer they got punished early.
What use is extra homework if they don't even do normal one? And detentions are also pretty much useless when their whole crowd is there and making same mess as in the class. You end up punishing the teacher that has to stay with them.
And then you have normal kids, trying to get thru school doing homework, coming to classes, listening to teacher, seeing other kids laughing, having fun, NOT doing homework and... noone does anything. So they become the idiots that work twice as hard for nothing.

I read your post perfectly well thankyou. I think that if they want to continue being hospitilised, then that is their punishment. And when I say detention, I mean solitary confinement style during break, lunch, and after school. If they want to spend time with their friends, then they can behave. And weekend detentions work.

Actually no, that is consequence, not punishment. They are as likely to learn to do even worse as they are to do better.
Any punishment that doesn't follow the transgression is pointless.

So you don't need one teacher for them, you need 30 teachers and 30 rooms for 30 kids? Or maybe make a prison block next to school?
You are strange. You are against punishment that follows transgression, but don't mind kids learning bad habits. Like smoking or drugs: feel free to start, no matter that they will get addicted, punishment will come in few years

OK, now you're twisting my words. I think, and I'm going to say this slowly, because you obviously didn't understand before, If. They. Are. Stupid. Enough. To. Continually. Get. Sent. To. Hospital. Then. The. Consequences. (Hospitilisation). Are. Their. Punishment. A punishment is, obviously, a consequence of doing bad things. QED, a punishment is a
consequence
of wrong doing. And I never said the SolCon thing was practical, just that it works. And it doesn't have to be separate rooms, just they are not allowed to make contact in any way, or they get a half hour added to the detention. And I don't want kids to get addicted or anything, where did you get that from? And bear in mind that the reason I am arguing against corporal punishment is because I am a kid myself. Ergo, I defend my kind. All in all, I think Rivenya's idea is the most sensible, even though helath and safety (I must make a topic sometime about health and safety) would stop you. So, in short Bearmug, WRONG!

Read some child psych materials, you might get enlightened
"The definition requires that punishment is only determined after the fact by the reduction in behavior; if the offending behavior of the subject does not decrease then it is not considered punishment".
If punishment is not immediate after reason for it, or close enough that it can be explained, it is not punishment. Children usually have short attention spans and can't connect those two if too much time passed. you think they realised that making a mess in school two weeks ago is the reason they got beaten up? They just got the idea that THEIR behaviour was ok, but the OTHER guy was wrong, and they just need to be tougher to make it right.
Sorry kid, but you need to look at it objectively and not 'This is my side, anyone saying otherwise is wrong'.

Following the quote from before, if children turn detention into rep gain and don't consider it a punishment, what are you going to do? Keep them till next morning? Parents will get you fired.
You can't 'punish' someone that doesn't know it's a punishment.

I refuse to argue further with someone that doesn't know when they are beaten
Seriously though, can we just agree to disagree? 'Cause it's obvious neither of us is going to concede. And just because you are older than me, doesn't mean you can be condescending to me. What is it with the adult superiority thing? You're older than us, therefore you are better than us? That's nice Mr. Creaky-Joints. How about you try and catch me? Kids can get away with loads of things adults can't, and everything costs less for us as well. Kids do what adults tell them when they, and only when they, RESPECT the adult. Therefore, we do what our parents tell us because we RESPECT them. Someone we don't know, on the internet, who wants to thrash us with a stick? Not so likely.

Ereb, your response it pretty much proving yourself wrong. There was nothing "condescending" about the replies. You are a kid. You do not support your own household and still answer to your parents.
There is a defining line between punishment and consequence. You run off the side of the road and get a flat tire? That is the CONSEQUENCE of running off the side of the road. You don't take care of your tires and they get old and bald? That is the CONSEQUENCE of being complacent. You misbehave in school and your parents (who own the vehicle) remove the tires from your car so you can't drive off on a whim. (because obviously you did NOT respect the adult you should have) that is PUNISHMENT!
Your "Mr. Creaky-Joints" comment and the rest of the unnecessary posturing you have done just dropped you many points in the gaining of respect you have worked on at Brasse.com. You don't want to be thrashed with a stick on the internet? Then quit arming us with the virtual stick.
The world really does work on a pay-it-forward kind of thing.....karma.....whatever you want to call it. You think it is all good for you now because you are young and know it all....just wait. It will all come home to roost eventually.
Just because it isn't "broken" now doesn't mean you don't have to take care of it.

The great thing about the internet, is nobody knows your age until you tell them. I assume everyone is a 30 year old male, and adjust according to the content of their posts. The more they say they are a female, the more I think they are a 50 year old guy. The more they say they are mature, the more I know they are to young to realize they aren't. I think any time you come into a hot topic issue on a forum you got to expect people to come out swinging, and 90% of the time they don't reply to the parts of your post that make since and are a sound argument, they pick at things like spelling, grammer, or bad annalagies.
As for the subject at hand, on one had I'm not really in favor of corporal punishment, but then again Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates and is one of the cleanest cities in the world, so maybe there is more to the issue that I'm aware of.

OK. I can see where you are coming from. As Quinatan has already pointed out previously, you can never tell what tone someone is taking when using text as a medium. I had had a hard day and was already kind of programmed to be defensive the day I wrote that. Soz Bearmug. I'm having exams right now, so I'm kind of tense
Sorry all
