Am I the only one that thinks that artists shouldn't have deadlines imposed on them? Because then it kinda means that the heart is being squeezed out by the brain and then you might get a slightly inferior piece of work. Don't get me wrong, some artists probably thrive on pressure and get sudden bouts of inspiration. But who really wants to live under the whip of stress?

<thwaps Wren with her whip of stress>

I admit that sometimes deadlines actually help with the creative process. Some of my best comics have been created under the gun... but at the same time, I've sometimes barely managed to squeeze one out of the second rate comic ideas/art part of my brain on time.

With the insanity going on in my life right now, I am very happy that Brakk has started doing his own comics, cannibalizing my past work. I enjoy them and they alleviate a LOT of stress. He has a 6-panel comic for today and I love it.

Meanwhile, the whip of stress is over my head as I work on this large dragon painting. =)

I hope you aren't including the ever classic poop jokes in that 'second rate comic ideas' part of your brain Smiley.  As Brakk so elegantly showed there's nothing like a fecundity of fecal farce for a good laugh!!!

None of Brasse's comics are second rate.

I humbly disagree, deadlines I generally there for a purpose and help to create a sence of focus that in my experience most "artists" lack.  Given no deadlines you get a starving artist still working on thier first big creation.

I believe it was Davinci who once said "a work of art is never finished, only abandoned".  So deadlines force an artist to walk away from the work.  I know Linda would never really call much of anything she does truly 'finished'.  She will just keep zoming in more and adding more and more detail until the work becomes mobius and she becomes trapped in some hand made fractal.

Brakk knows me all too well. =P

If I had a YEAR to work on that mural, I would have. I cannot leave images alone. Even with the comics, I have to fight the urge to do more on them weeks after they are posted.

Luckily, I am afforded little spare time to do that sort of thing, hehe.
Or I'd never get any NEW work done!
