Charfahl just found out today that his EQ2 account was comprised so if you've seen him around being nasty it wasn't him.  Evidently they used a 30day game card and the account has been put back to us so he's going to hop on to see if he's been stripped.

I miss EQ2 - darned budget!

I am very sorry to hear that the account was busted. It is a truly awful experience and all too common.

SOE tries to post an article on a semi-regular basis to try to keep account vigilance at the forefront:

At a past FanFaire, Customer service related that almost a third if its contacts had to do with fraud issues. A THIRD. Everything from stolen credit cards being used to buy a dozen accounts to disgruntles guildmates stealing each other's stuff. It's an ugly world out there. Look after yourself!

funniest thing is... my account was canciled for a couple of months when it happened...

I know exactly HOW they gained access.. I should say, how they got my password, my username is another animal all together...

The password, is because I have had Yahoo Mail for AGES... ('96) they compromised my mail... only in for less than 5 mins, but long enough to get mail forwarded... IE I was awake and regained access and deleted their email addy...

I have no clue how they got the info... Dont care much, since I went back to LOTRO and even that is a very casual playing...

I dunno, they were really nice about fixing everything, and heck SOE was who contacted me... I was like... yeah I dont remember what level my toon was, and what all they had, but they rolled back, so yay... THEN sent me a nice semi nasty note sayin, this is ok, we are doing this FREE ONE TIME ONLY... Next time your account is stolen, you account may be banned...

I was like... Gee, ok, I have NO idea how they gained my username... much less how they HACKED my email, and I feel like I am the bad guy at the end of the day...

And THAT is another reason I chalk up my LOTRO resub, and my no longer paying SOE 120 bucks a month... :>

I am sorry to hear about the "semi-nasty" note.
However, I am glad that you got your items back.

I do know that CS has to deal with some accounts over and over again as people fail to protect them, and perhaps why they send a warning, to spur people to be careful. The internet can be a very nasty place and it's really too bad that putting a halt to this type of activity seems an impossible task.

I am quite curious how Turbine handles these issues (because you can be sure that they have the same challenges). I'll have to ask next time I run into some Turbine folks. =)

Lol no kidding, yeah I figured the nasty note was... Like protect it cause some people are dumbasses

LUCKILY I ain't had a problem with turbine...

BTW Gratz on the job if I never got to say so before... VERY cool workin for SOE.... As much as I dog them, I gotta say props for the job, and really I have no real complaints about SOE, i mean they DID contact me and say, hey someone stoled yer acct LOL...

Really I don't get too concerned too much anymore, I mean I spent WAY too much time of my life on online games :> Now it's eh, all about the fun...

I need to do more RL stuff anyways :>
