The Krakk... err, Dawn of Brakk

Brasse -- 2007-02-17 21:57:39

When we began planning this site, we hadn't the money to hire someone to program the pages nor set up the databases we'd need for maps, quests, comics and so on...
There are a number of very good pre-made modular site systems available on the market, but none of them quite fit what we had in mind, and most contained a lot of very bulky code that we did not like.

One dark and stormy night in January, Brakk and I went to Barnes and Noble, and spent an hour looking at a huge stack of books on CSS and PHP. Three books came home with us, and within two weeks, Brakk had learned how to put together all that you see here. A further week had him presenting me with a fully functional quest database. I knew he was good, but did not realize how fast he could come up to speed on this.

The good thing about working our own site from the basement up is that Brakk now knows how to fix things when they break. In theory. =P

I am very proud of what he has accomplished here. Now it's up to Wren and I to give you interesting stuff to read and look at!

Long live the Krakk of Brakk!

More bad code

Alluvian -- 2007-02-23 22:59:00

Brasse assures me that nobody is interested in the code covered up by troll head, but just in case, this is what I found on a note passed between the troll and dwarf. That troll is an awful coder. And now you know field names on our foodbucket table. Please don't steal anything from it.

$sql="select animal, legs, eyes from foodbucket";
$result=mysql_query(sql);
while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
$animal=$row['animal'];
$legs=$row['legs'];
$eyes=$row['eyes'];
if ($animal == "rabbit" and $legs>2) {eet($animal);}
if (!$animal and $eyes>=1) {eet($eyes);}
}
