The Midas Touch

Brasse -- 2008-03-20 20:03:41

All that glitters is not gold. Sometimes it's the gleam in the eye of the bugger that just ran off with all your stuff.

Fraud has been with us since man first learned that stealing really works, and it's even more fun if the victim helps you. Add in the anonymity of the internet and you can't even beat on the little pickpocket if you catch him.

Coyote beat me to this topic but I'll give him credit for a great article he posted last Thursday "Buying Plat for Dummies", cause I'm generous like that, and besides, he can't draw comics, so I gave him a few days' grace before doing mine. It had nothing to do with my lazyness and/or waiting for a scamfest to erupt on my home server to set the requisite fire under my Dwarven butt.

It is a real shame when people get ripped off by their own lack of precaution or naivete but things are getting out of hand this past week. It's not just the dummies being victimized any more. The zombies at the gates have evolved, and this now deserves a full article.

Not long after the rush on scammed goods on Crushbone Gnobrin, EQII Community Manager, posted an article on this very topic called "Keeping Your Characters Safe" that also bears reading through... There are some frightening links in there that help to show the full scope of what is currently going on in the game industry.

Want to read more Dwarven ranting about this past week and fraud in general? FRAUD - Get your game on.
