The Cat IS the Hat
Wren -- 2008-09-04 17:52:29
So I waited until the youngest Wrenling was at an age that I thought he would be more gentle to a new animal, and we went looking. We looked for a couple of weeks, and came up dry. I was not only not finding my male orange cat replacement, I was not finding any suitable cat.
The next weekend, we went to the pet store while they had their shelter kitties on display. I had made up my mind that I was not going home empty-handed, no matter what. So we got Lili, a female tortoiseshell (calico?) kitten.
It was soon clear that this cat had multiple personalities, ranging from sweet to evil. As a friend liked to tell people, "I would be petting her, she would be purring, and then she'd suddenly clamp her jaws on my arm!" Lili left her mark on my younger son's face, even though he was gentle with her (just very, um, loving, yeah).
Harshest of all was the realization that I was much more allergic to this cat than any other cat I'd had. She was different, I was older, whatever; the combination was not good. Plus, Lili never got along with our previous cat Lucy, who had claimed me. For all these reasons, Lili and I never really bonded.
I have been trying for years to find a good home for her. Pet ownership is a big responsibility, and if I was going to give it up, it would need to be to a home where she really belonged.
Enter BRAKK. He came to visit, met Lili, and that was the end. She was nicer and happier with him than I'd ever seen her with anyone, and that put my SEKRIT PLAN in motion.
Fast forward some months till this weekend, to find Lili and Brasse enduring a 9+ hour air travel experience to get from CA to FL, to bring the cat to her new home, where she will, hopefully, happily sit atop Brakk's head for many, many years to come.
Thank you for giving my cat the right home. :)
