This comic came from a conversation I had yesterday with Dufoo, The Drunken Dwarf.

Why do people like to play Dwarves? I don't mean the number-crunchers who pick them because of their stats, but the players who choose DWARF as their main class in any game that offers them. Those who, in a game without Dwarves, often make a suspiciously short, stout version of another race and carry on as if they were Dwarves.

Dwarves are the epitome of political incorrectness. Loud, brash, opinionated, flaunting decorum and drinking mightily whether or not is is actually 5pm somewhere in the world.

They are wilfully biased and will often base their stand on any subject on the chance of getting into a good argument or angry brawl, rather than actual personal opinion.

They are tough as nails, bathe when they feel like it (and generally claim they "felt like it" when they were knocked off a bridge into water during battle and got soaked), and never back down from any doomed situation.

I don't get much of a chance to be any of these things in real life. I wait respectfully in lines at the bank, supermarket and theme park. I am not loud and unruly in public and have never yet started a barroom fight.

I guess I'd like to be a little different from my human self when online, and feel more akin to the garrulous, short, heavyset Dwarf than I do to the ethereal, elegant, willowy Elf. Besides, I'd look like HELL in an Elven costume. My Dwarf costume lets me indulge all of my middle-aged spread, and allows for future expansion.

Besides, Elves are all PANSY-ARSED wimps whut need savin' alla time!

*ahem*

So tonight, Oi raise me mug o' Guinness ta all those who ROLEPLAY Dwarves, thumb their noses at them whut fink we should "talk normal" an' wouldn't hae it any odder way!
