Payscales for commercial airlines: http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Industry=Commercial_Aviation_%2F_Airline/Salary
Commercial airline pilots (ie. major companies that do long-distance flying) make much more than commuter airline pilots (short-distance, "express", connector flights, etc.)
The average number of hours flown by pilots in general is 75-90 hours per month. Which is about 1/2 as much as what full-time people work. So the $23K-ish that the commuter airline pilot made, which isnt great, would be about $46k if they worked full-time hours. I think the hourly limits are due to FAA regulations and such.
So in essence: it all depends. Commercial airline pilots can make $70-$100k / year, and commuter pilots make about 1/3-1/2 as much. Not sure what freight haulers make but I'd imagine it'd be near what commuter airline pilots make.
