One of my favorite pulling macros was used by a friend of mine:

I just groped <mob name>'s sister, and boy is he mad at ME!

Sometimes, macroes can be helpful. Like, if the healers have their own channel, it can stop the lot of themrunning over to rez the tank, while your ever patient Captain and his herald try to fight of Sambrog all by their incy little selves. However, I do not need the chat window moving so fast that I cannot see who the heck needs the buff 'coz if I use that one NOW then they can make an Attack of Uberness and own that huge Elite mob right in front of us. Macroes? A double edged sword.

I have 2 macros on my assassin... 1 is "oh god oh god we are all gonna die! evac in 3 seconds" and "I am dead" the latter because sometimes in a busy raid some of our people need a small reminder.. ;)

When I was raiding with a brigand I also did a macro with dispatch, because it was a significant amount of alteration to dps for everyone that people wanted to be able to time their big hits with it..

But telling me every minute that CoB is cast or any other generic macro that really has no life altering change to me and my playing the game? I just dont care, I am just gonna assume you are doing YOUR fair share and playing your class to the best of your ability while I do the same thing..

Though, I do have to admit that in a fit of pique one day I DID make a macro for every single combat art my brigand had that did a debuff (and its a lot)... and would trot those out in retaliation whenever I got fed up with "healing the tank, picking daisies, Etc" macros all the time.

I'm so glad LotRO doesn't allow for parsers :)

Let's see, I use

~<@>~ mezzing ;target ~<@>~ (and ~ resisted ~ ;p ) on LM and burg - they don't always get noticed but, even in pugs, I have seen them be useful.

Burg also has ~<@>~ CJ incoming ~<@>~

Capt has ~<@>~ Gather for buffs ~<@>~ , ~<@>~ buffs done ~<@>~ and ~<@>~ using Last Stand, don't heal me ~<@>~

Minst has ~<@>~ you healer has aggro, get it off her if you don't want to die! ~<@>~ :D

But I hope I don't over-use / spam them.

Since this thread has turned into "justify my macro":

My mamby pamby elfink Lore Master has two macros: /e just threw a blinding light at <;target> and suggests you choose another target.
AND
/e scolds <target player> for breaking mez. (for those who don't pay attention, because there's nothing like public shame) I know, the RP of the mez confuses people, but I'm like that.

I thank the Maiar (devs) that I've never seen numbers parsing in LOTRO.

I used to macro in EQLive with my Wizard. It was another case of "hey, other people are doing it, I wanna be cool too!" I'd tack on some silly incantation to go along with my favorite spell and that was it. I'm guilty of announcing big hits too but only in groups and never part of a macro.

I only use Macro chat ("Think Out Loud" from Curse!) when I Rez or do something to the target that everyone needs to know; like Silencing or locking them in my 10-second Uber Tank-Embrace of DOOOM.

i used to bother with that macro text stuff back when playing my shaman in EQL for all the slow messages so everyone could see i was actually doing something.. but in EQ2 my necro messages were down to probably two... directed tells with funny messages for power hearts and announcing mass heart casting. And those were mostly for the giggles. not like i want to read all that spam in the chat screen either.
