Now you need to make a map of their NEW city! I think I might have to reinstall SWG as well for the space combat that I really enjoyed. My last computer had a borked registry that just did NOT agree with SWG, my fancy new Windows 7 release candidate and a fresh HD should have no problems!
Hopefully my old Xwing still works, I am sure they probably changed how the gizmos and doodads that went into it work... Those old parts are probably horribly underpowered now. Worst case I can setup the engine in my house as a new food processor and those laser beams as an industrial strength microwave/night light.

Brakk - with the number of tailors we've in the new city (River Haven, about 2800 meters due South of Doaba Guerfel) a laser beam fabric cutter could be very handy indeed!
Drek mentioned last eve that he is truly re-enjoying the time spent in space recently. I'll need to repair my fighters and renew my knowledge. Also, we've a new member and recent lvl 90 Architect/Shipwright - Saarfa. Saarfa made a ship last evening, and so may be away from River Haven on space missions for awhile. But if upgrades are needed, Saarfa is one of our two SW to contact, right Drek?

Yeah old Consortia was eerily desolate. The last time I was there, it was at least somewhat recognizable as the grand city that it once was. Today, there were maybe 2, 3 buildings there. I guess everything just got buried under the sands...
Oddly enough, the Body & Soul Cantina was still in its spot east of Tyrena. I'm not quite sure how it survived the mass destruction of structures, but it was good to see it. And now, off to Starsider for me as well.

Tymme, Body and Soul survived (survives) because before I moved Crellian I put all my credits into the management. I also created Crellian 'Too (nods to Atherin) to maintain management rights and eventually earn credits to keep it alive until the 'proper authorities' decide it is timely and proper to move it.

Great to see Bhin back. Even if she is frozen mute in one spot.
I save everything I can from SWG these days, and try to keep it in more than one location, after a heartbreaking loss of my CPU a couple of years ago that completely wiped every screenshot I'd ever taken from existence. My entire SWG journey lost to the void. It was a point where I had to existentially question the life and future of my experiences as a blue fish-man.
Instead, I now save all and sundry and have been contributing to my own wiki before I jumped into the Starsider one.
To be fair, River Haven is officially Malcar Bel-Havoks, he was just nice enough to take in a shipload of Wanderhome vagrants. TCON has certainly built it up though - from small leafy hamlet to resort metropolis. And with the events/RP participation it's getting, it's a locale with a long and colorful life ahead of it.
Saarfa is one of our shipwrights, yes. My Ithorian alt, Riz, is also building up resources for the trade, but will probably focus on a few select components and chassis. Saarfa's probably in a better position to give it more attention on a main.
The Body & Soul was still going strong last time I checked, as is the TIE. If we can ever get the TIE brought over, Malcar and I thought it'd be fitting to put it right in front of the PA Hall in the square.
I have been enjoying space alot recently. The various pilot collections have kept me quite entertained, and I recently fitted out an X-Wing for asteroid mining and have been enjoying simply cranking up a bit of Hybrid or Nine Inch Nails and spending an hour or two shooting at rocks :P

Hey! Star Wars MMORPG! Dang it, now I'm torn between this one ('coz it has lots of peeps from the forum) and the new one which is coming soon. Two questions; is it free? (if not how much?) And; will it work on a crappy little 5/6 year old computer like mine? Please answer. You're my only hope. [groan]

Ereb, go to the Star Wars Galaxies site to find the 14-day free trial. If you've ever had an SOE Station Pass (all SOE games use them), use that login and password. Otherwise, create one.
The game is not free, but the trial will give you ample time to see if you like it enough to take a part time job to support it. =P
Here is a link to the system specs (and recommended system specs): Clicky here to see if you are tall enough for this ride.
I am on Starsider, the very heavily populated RP server. There are player guides all over the official site and in the forums, if you take the time to look. =)
Our SWG Community Manager, Draakull, has a guild on Eclipse server where they actively encourage noobs to join, build in their city and ask lots of questions. I am sure there are others like that across the servers as well. =)

Ahh, Star Wars Galaxies. I went there because AC2 was so awful, and I was waiting for the next big fantasy-oriented game. To gain some peace and quiet, I chose the name "Wrendolyn" instead of "Wren", and the game did provide plenty of that.
I chose to be an armorsmith, for reasons I cannot even recall. I think I tried to shoot a bunny in the tutorial and had such difficulty I figured I needed to stick to pressing factory buttons instead.
It was here I met my best friend Bhinder (or Bhin'der, really), and we formed a partnership to TAKE OVER THE WORLD, er the galaxy, with the most awesome armor and stuff ever made.
That armor was made possible by help from a tight network of people, nearly all TCON members that continually brought me the hides and materials and goodies needed to create the uberlicious armor.
I have plenty of good memories of hanging out at the Body and Soul, to be sure, but I preferred to spend most of my time either out cooing to my factories, or sitting in Bhin'der's little tent, where she faithfully sold the wares I created. Without her marketing skills, my stuff would have been buried in some sandstorm.
I feel that people just can't, you know, go 'home' again. As in, once you leave an RPG for good, all of your good memories should stand out in bright contrast to any bad ones. I have moved my shivering, naked character to Starsider, but chances are high that I will prefer to keep the happiness SWG brought me (until EQ2 beta came out!!) inside my head.
Thanks for all the fish, and stuff!

I'll tell you a sekrit Bhin. I STILL have all that yellow outfit you made for me 5 years ago.
Apparently things have changed a lot. I am having to get back into Jabba's good graces all over again because his memory is not what it used to be. I am running the Legacy quest line to get back into the groove. And I am trying my hand at Beast Mastery. We'll see how that works out.
It is such a shift from WAR. Lots more to occupy the mind. In WAR, you sort of just jump in and start slashing. Which is good mind you! But, sometimes I crave the actual use of my brian to play a game.
Hope to actually run into you for a real span of time Bhin'der. I don't get enough Twilek hugs to last me.

SWG - Revenge of the UI
Brasse -- 2009-08-08 08:41:33
A more wretched hive of scum and villainy... hahahaa, hardly. TCON had the world's longest guild charter, bylaws and economic policies. We could have run Lichtenstein with our paperwork, process and red tape.
SWG was a wonderful investment of play time, but after a few years, my world turned and I went back to familiar Dwarven form when EverQuest II came out.
I admit that I longed to return to the glory days of SWG every once in a while. The trouble is, TCON had moved back to Corellia by then. I'd patch for eons and log on to find myself on Lok, in a raging dust storm, standing alone amongst the remaining fragments of our once mighty metropolis, Consortia. A thousand years might have passed. I truly felt a sense of loss.
Then of course I'd think I should head to a starport and go do something... and that is when I was inevitably jarred out of my melancholy reverie by a few curse words. Two letters: UI.
I do not adapt well to varying control systems, and I remember way back in beta, when SWG slapped me upside the head with the most challenging command and control system I'd yet encountered. It ain't changed much.
Yes, I am that lazy. Game designers take note: I don't care about "original" or "much more better" or "new and intuitive." Just gimme what I am FAMILIAR with and no one gets hurt. =)
There was the added problem that when gameplay in SWG changed, way back when, I had to pick a profession. No more Master Politician/Teras Kasai/other stuff for me. I didn't know what to pick, but the nag screen forced me to choose, so I went, yah, you guessed it, Jedi.
Shut up. I did more than my fair share of holocrons and slaughtering of innocents when THAT was the prescribed path to enlightenment, so I think I earned it... but while I had a lot of points to invest in the profession, I had NO CLUE what any of them did. The most untrained Padawan in the Galaxy.
Since starting work at SOE, I decided that I should make a serious effort to return to the game, particularly as I need to work with SWG and its players. I used to be a freaking expert at every aspect of the game, so how hard could it be?
Like running into a rock wall. Repeatedly. Damn you, Alt key!!!
On my first day back, with baby steps I managed to move around, pack up my buildings and moved lock, stock and two smokin' lekku to the Starsider server.
That is where the balance of TCON went when free server transfers were first made available, and I have fond memories of that group to fall back on. We accomplished so very much in beta and on Wanderhome server, back in the day. First Guild Hall, largest Metropolis on Lok, and I'll never forget the day we earned a Tie Fighter by banding together in the most epic search and collect mission in history.
I was but one of a number of CEOs that led TCON at various times, and I remember those as being among the most challenging and rewarding days of all.
About 10 seconds after logging in on Starsider today, I received a tell from Jadin and a guild invite from Drekkin on behalf of The Consortium. It already feels a little more like home. I just need a virtual seeing eye dog until I remaster the galaxy once more.
Heeeere, Bothan, Bothan...
I was happy to see that Drekkin kept a copy of the city map of Consortia that I developed way back in the day. SWG was where I got my start in mapping for online games, by the way. Drekkin also saved an early map of Bela Consor and Consortia, the player city we made in beta and live, before player cities were actually added to the game.
Most of the metropolis was occupied within 24 days of founding it, with the help of zoning officers and a crack squad of defense troops to clear out Kimogillas, Droidekas and other nasties... then we had to wait for the weeks to pass to enable the city ranks to catch up to us. Not long after we reached R4, our metropolis had expanded well BEYOND the maximum dimensions and people were setting up houses in decidedly dangerous territory, hehehe. Many, many stories there....
For reference, there are two ways you can find me in a game that does not have Dwarves.
1) something else that is short, hairy and obnoxious, or
2) something orange
I have both in SWG: Brasse and Bhin'der. Feel free to send me messages, but fair warning: I may forget how to return tells.
