M&MOG

Don't you pooh-pooh the concept. I bet it will show up sooner than you think.

The big corporate moguls have been exploring all sorts of new avenues for "interactive marketing".

They've tried in-game product placement and advertising, with mixed results. They are watching how their target market reacts very closely, and quickly pull back from negative reactions.

You've seen MyCokeRewards.com, right? I find the site horrifically slow and it rarely loads fully for me due to the thousand pounds of slick and heavy production values, but I did stay long enough to figure out that imbibing enough Coke to get even a small reward would probably qualify as a drinking problem.

It reminded me of the old days when we hoarded Kool-Aid packets for eons, just to learn that really, it was way too much effort for the prizes.

The characters featured in today's comic are REAL. Yes sir, just go to Planet M in order to make your own. To be fair, their character creation is more elaborate than that found in many of the games that we do pay to play, hehe.

Brave the lagtastic straits of character creation (using the mantra "it's free, no monthly fee") and then you can send postcards featuring your M-character to all the people you know, or even play some of their online *gasp* arcade games.

How long till the next company makes the leap to make the games multiplayer - you know, so you can drag your long-suffering friends along? Not long, I bet!

Go ahead and post your M on our forum thread.

Go on, I double-dare you. See how well this sort of marketing works?

ps. No real M&Ms were harmed in the making of this comic. I drew the ones Brakk is eating.

You missed some M's in there. M*M Massive Multiplayer Online Game.

Anyway, I hate looking at this comic, the way their feet are all in the exact same post make my mind imagine that they are just about to break into some lame candy coated dance. Singing would also be involved, and surely a rainbow and some feel good message.

I feel ill.

Oh, and as our forums have pointed out, they did a skittles game already, and there was that 7-up Spot game for the NES/Genesis or whatever as well as others less known ones I am sure. The Spot game was actually pretty good as much as it pains me to say it.

So the bottom line is that I really have nothing interesting to add. Carry on.
