And now, a word from our sponsors...

Late last week, our application for online advertising was finally accepted by two ad agencies, Burst Media and eGameLogic. Up till now we've been too new and too small to qualify. This means that our old familiar placeholder ads will now be replaced by real ads for the first time.

A little cash is better than no cash when it comes time to buy a small bottle of wine and a sack of potatoes. We have a tiny staff, but we've been working really hard, hoping to entertain and help you in the games we love.

We'd all prefer to have big ol' MMO companies on our site as our sponsors, but our traffic isn't up for that yet, and may not be for a year or more at present growth rates. I would get down on my Dwarven knees and beg for long term ad contracts from SoE, Turbine, Mythic, Blizzard, and the other big players* but their advertising dollars are precious and very tightly targeted. We are still a wee little site by those standards, and I completely understand why we don't qualify for consideration... yet!

So in the meantime, we'll take what we can get and say thank you, sir, may I please have another mortgage company ad, sir?

Mind you, "what you get" if you blindly accept all the ads include pop-ups (forget it), ads with sound (good googly-moogly no) and an entire category called, I kid you not, "Extreme Animation" (HELL no).

Brakk has spent the last several days weeding out dozens of horrendous ads, and we hope that the remaining options that cycle here are at least moderately acceptable.

In spite of this precaution, some of the less up-front advertisers that belong to the programs may be able to sneak around our opt-out categories. If you see an offensive or painful ad, TELL US (including the name of the advertiser) and we will try to mash it into oblivion as fast as possible.

Most of the ads are those which pay per thousand views. I think the only click-through ad we have left is Tickle – you know, those silly quizzes. We kept those in because the Elfink LOVES quizzes. =P

I did see a dancing green alien, I swear.
If he brings me a beer at the end of this month, I'll be happy.

*oh please, please, ~sobs~ pleeeeeeeease!!!! We'll be good, we'll say only glowing things about your game... oh. Wait. Never mind! Man, we are screwed.

GAAAAH

I STILL SEE THEM!

Seriously! I turned them off over 24 hours ago and that darn mortgage company with the stupid dancing things is showing up on the site!!!

So sorry about them people, I have more respect for our visitor than to show you that.

Those are from a default set of eGameLogic ads that I turned off (wish I could selectively turn off some, as some are not half bad really). Anyway, egl fills the header when Burst has nothing. Unfortunately I have done all I can do to stop it right now outside of shutting off that ad entirely (strong consideration). Burst media's site is down for the day on maintenance so I cannot turn off the redirect, and egl has yet to respond to my email complaint. Probably won't until Monday.
