WTF OMG GYYYYB!

They are incredibly powerful and often a life-saving, battle-winning event.
In EQII, we have Heroic Opportunities, but it is often hard to tell just what the effect of any given event was. "Oooo, pretty graphic - what did that do?"
"Darned if I know. Keep hitting it!"
In LOTRO, take as few as two or three people, and when an FM starts, have them all hit red. A few seconds later... The ground shakes as a huge treant materializes for a moment to wallop the mob, WHHHOMMMMPPP!!!! and its health drops in a big way.
"Ohhhh YEAH!" we say, and hope for another.
There should never be any time that a FM is not used, because the basics are simple. Everyone can just hit ONE color, depending on the need at the time.
Red = direct damage, to kill a mob fast.
Green = healing, in case you forgot your Minstrel at home.
Blue = power, in case your group is Minstrel and Loremaster heavy.
Yellow = DoT, for those really big mobs, because the DoT gives greater overall damage than the faster dd.
Now, give an FM opportunity to a group that is used to playing together, and you can come up with all manner of incredibly funky effects that can perform all four features, plus summon a temporary spirit pet to fight for you.
Now, add a savvy Burglar (like Decarian*) who can trigger a lot of FMs in addition to the random ones. Suddenly you have someone who can usually call the FMs to suit the situation. This group will ROCK.
Or... take away the smart group, and you have some yobbos who pay no attention at all, and uhhh... you get the scene above. Yeah. That's usually when you can tell you're in a pick-up-group and should pretend to have connection issues so that you can exit, stage left.

*(note: Decarian is her main name; while her Burglar alt is really called Kari, she is still Decarian to me. Old habits and all that.)
