Virtual Citizen Association Campaign
Leon -- 2008-01-29 09:08:37
Ryzom was a sandbox of a game, where you could develop your character in a way that you chose, and played the game accordint to your style. A lot of the content became player-driven, over and above what the game had to offer in quests.
Ryzom had been bankrupted and saved at the 11th hour back in 2006, and a section of the player base tried to purchase the game back then. They started a group called the 'Virtual Citizenship Association', and made their bids, but were beaten to the bidding post by another commercial interest.
If I recall correctly, the game hit a couple more huge hiccups in terms of development and ownership up until last year, with the community staying loyal throughout all these difficult times.
Last year, not very long after I had began to play, (typically) the game took another dive, though the developers let the servers run and the players can still log in without the monthly fees, as I heard recently from someone who still logs in. No further development was going to happen without a buyout. Nobody stepped to the forefront to save the game.

What are your views on such an association? Can they succeed? Would you like to see your virtual character having virtual rights in a virtual world? Does it strike you as intriguing, interesting, or just plain silly?
