General QuestThe Scholar's Stair Archives are not far from the Stone Quarter. From the Stone Quarter, take the northeast path, and the Archives will be on your right. Even better, just check out Brasse's map of Bree. Newbold wants to learn about Bree-Land's history, starting with the Barrow-downs. He wants you to bring him some rune-stones that he remembers seeing as a boy.
NOTE: Although this is not a fellowship quest, I would suggest you bring a friend or two, because the wights around the Spire spawn fast, and there are many of them.
NOTE: I would recommend you work on the first step of the Calming the Wake quest at the same time as you do this one.
STEPS:
1) Collect 3 Carved Stones. Newbold says the stones can be found "near 'The Dead Spire'". First things first, check out Brasse's map of the Northern Barrow-downs. Now then, there are indeed many stones around The Dead Spire. First, you'll need to get to the Barrow-downs. There are multiple ways to get there, but I am going to tell you a fairly quick way from Bree. Take the West Gate out of Bree, heading west. Between that gate and the Southern Bree-fields, just past some ruins, you'll see a road heading south (29.4s, 54.9w). Follow the path and you will enter the Northern Barrows Pass. From here, The Dead Spire is fairly a straight shot south. It is high and large, and it will not be long before you see it looming before you (32.1s, 55.1w). Double-click the stones to pick them up.
2) Bring the stone fragments to Newbold Leafcutter. Newbold cannot tell by looking at the stones why wights are overrunning the Barrows area.
3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and you will now be able to take the next quest, Return to the Barrow-Downs.
