Old Forest Investigation

General Quest

Saradoc says that Doderic is late for tea, and he suspects both the boys have gone to the Old Forest. Time for you to get those boys back!

STEPS:

1) Find Rollo Maggot and Doderic Brandybuck. Saradoc says:

"I'm afraid they may have wandered off into the Old Forest, out to Bald Hill, east of the Bonfire Glade."

To get to the Old Forest, run back to the first signpost you saw in Buckland on the way to Brandy Hill. The road offers several different routes at this point, but you want to take the east road toward the Old Forest Tunnel (32.7s, 61.4w). From here you'll be following the path on the forest floor that leads to Bald Hill, and Doderic (31.7s, 59.1w). Be sure to use the Old Forest map here, else things could get tricksy for you, and fast.

Doderic tells you that Rollo was meeting someone, but he dropped a letter and ran away to the south. He elaborates:

"I think someone has been threatening him! There is an abandoned cottage along the Withywindle southeast of here. If this note is to be believed, he's probably gone there! You'll have to go west a ways, through the Shifting Wood, before turning south and southeast."

Then you automatically collect the crumpled note.

2) Find Rollo Maggot. Here is where the map comes in very, very useful. I ran down the path toward Tom Bombadil's house and then went south past Old Man Willow until I saw the questy ring on my radar. Sure enough, Rollo is at the abandoned cottage (33.9s, 58.6w). It turns out that Rollo was being threatened. The guy said he would burn down their farm, so Rollo took matters into his own hands, and now has a body to bury.

3) Talk to Doderic Brandybuck. Doderic is relieved to hear that Rollo is safe.

4) Talk to Farmer Maggot.

5) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, Torang, 3 Mushroom Pies, and either 5 Cooked Carrots, 5 Eggs and Onions, or 5 Fried Mushrooms.
