Crafting: Jeweller QuestAt some point, you realize that you cannot get to your new Tier III jeweller recipes!
I wasted a whole bunch of material, wondering why I wasn't getting any progress, before I realized that something was awry. No lauhging now, I hadn't had my beer for the day yet!
If you walk over to any Novice Jeweller, they will look at you askance from under the glowing ring above their heads and tell you that OBVIOUSLY you have to go on a quest to increase your skill.
Apparently someone named Kobbi Stonestar, a jeweller of some renown, has been asking about you, and would like to judge the process of your crafting skill.
1. Talk to Kobbi Stonestar
Kobbi can be found at the Forsaken Inn, on the edge of the Lone Lands. Luckily, he is on the edge closest to civilization, almost on the borders of Bree-land.
From Bree, take the only road leading southwest. Follow it through Chetwood South, past the Midgewater Marshes and soon enough (just before your boots wear out), you will cross into the Lone Lands. The Forsaken Inn is practically on the road, and only a drunken ox could miss it, even at night.
Enter the Inn. Just inside and to the left (east), you'll see Kobbi, a Dwarf, sitting at a table by the roaring fire. Drinking, of course.
Kobbi clearly has a very high regard for... himself. Still, he holds the key to your progress, and presents you with a test to judge your skill.
The Dwarf hands you a recipe for the White Tree Trinket - scribe it right away so that you don't forget where you put it. He also gives you an instruction sheet entitled "Fashioning a White Tree Trinket" which is a useful reminder of what you need.
2. Collect the Delicate White Tree Mould
3. Collect the Polished Opal
4. Collect Silver Ingots (2)
You should have no problem with #3 (you likely have several polished opals in your pockets, right?), or with #4 (you are a Prospector after all, and usually run out of space for loot due to the many rocks and ingots you lug around).
Just in case you DON'T have these items... silver and opals are both mined from Silver Nodes (Tier II), found in many areas, such as the hills around the Forsaken Inn. The silver can be refined into ingots at a Forge, while the Opals may be polished at a Workbench.
#2 is the tougher one. As noted in Kobbi's instructions...
"Delicate White Tree Mould.
Had one of these, I did. Got stolen by Dwarves. Not just any Dwarves! No, no, no. Dwarves I thought were my friends! Worst sort, that. Hiding down in Mithrenost now, I expect... the old keep in the central Lone-lands. Snug up against the southern hills, it is. Find Barthr Dourhand - he's the thief and deserves to have his beard cut short - and get back my Delicate Tree Mould. You'll probably find him northeast of Mithrenost proper; he doesn't trust his allies, and is surely looking for easy pickings outside the ruins. That's the mould you want. Only one that will do!"
Now you know who (Barthr Dourhand) and where (northeast of Mithrenost, in south central Lone Lands). You may wish to take a friend along if you are 20-25, as there are a lot of Elite Shornbeard Outlaws where you are going. They are level 17/18.
From the Forsaken Inn, head west and a little south. There are some ruins called "Thandobel" found at 33.8s, 32.7w. A second set of unnamed ruins lies directly to the west of it at 33.8s, 33.9w. The road south to Mithrenost cuts between the two. Barthr Dourhand is a wanderer and can be found in or around either set of ruins (never near Mithrenost itself). If you plan to solo Barthr, make sure you lurk for him well outside the ruins. his path usually takes him round the north side, some distance from the stones.
Barthr is a level 20 signature mob, with 1,034 hitpoints. Whack him but good, being careful not to damage the Tree Mould of course!
5. Create the White Tree Trinket.
You will need to find a Workbench and equip your jeweller's tools. The closest one I found was in Bree, which is quite a run from Lone Lands. The item is easy to make, there are no skill checks.
6. Return to Kobbi Stonestar.
Kobbi is reasonably impressed, and immediately takes credit for your work. Silly bugger. At least he does let you keep the trinket, and advances your training in the fine art of jewelcraft.
Hurrah!
Special thanks go out to Brasse for providing this quest writeup!
