Foreword: Fires in the North

Epic - Book III: Council of the North

Frideric has gotten a message from a Ranger called Candaith. Frideric urges you to speak with this Ranger, for he "believe it concerns the Enemy's movements in the North Downs."

STEPS:

1) Talk to Candaith. Frideric tells you:

"He is staying at a camp northwest of Weathertop. Travel east to The Forsaken Inn, then go north until you reach his campsite."

I found him by going up the path that leads into the mountain, and when the hill slopes down a bit, you're near Candaith and his camp (30.1s, 37.9w). He tells you:

"Esteldin sends word that you are to go there and meet with Halbarad. Please hurry, for the Orc fires burn hot and strong and each moment we waste is another opportunity for the Enemy."

2) Talk to Halbarad. The quest info states:

"Halbarad is in the North Downs, north of Meluinen."

These directions, unlike most of the quests I have taken, are minimal. In the North Downs, assuming you are coming from the Trestlebridge side of things, take the Greenway north, and then take the path to the east (it heads northeast, gradually) when it forks before the Fields of Fornost. Youll be on this road, traveling northeast and east, for a long time. North of Kingsfell the road stops in this direction, and you must turn north or south to continue on it. Don't do that, instead just keep heading east, towards the mountains. There is not a road, though there is somewhat of a path. This leads to the walled city of Esteldin. Go east into the city, past the first part, and before it leads even further to the east, head north (the left, from the entrance), where you'll find a Ranger standing outside of a barred room. Open the door, and you'll be ushered into Halbarad's Study (9.4s, 41.2w).

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and you will now be able to take the next quest, Chapter 1: Ranger of the Fields.
