Another sidequest. These fireworks are hard to make!
This part starts off with Hart Holeman in Overhill. Overhill is on the road heading north out of the shire.
This is my problem. There’s a lot of bears in the north woods. Usually I have no trouble with them. You just stay out of their way, and they’ll stay out of yours, so to speak. But I have a big woodpile I’ve spent some time gathering, and a really big black bear has decided it’s the perfect place for him and his kind to live.
The big black bear is very dangerous, and I can’t get near my wood-pile anymore. If you can help me out by getting rid of it so I can get at my wood, I’ll be happy to make up a parcel of charcoal for your friend Hyacinth.
My woodpile is almost due north of here, past the wall and a small logging camp. You’ll probably find that black bear right on top of it.
Well, the black bear is just where they say he is. I find him a little easier to find by heading east out of town on the road and then heading north along the river on the west side. The woodpile is along the rock cliffs west of a waterfall on that river.
/loc data for the woodpile is: lx767 ly981 ox153 oy110
The black bear always respawns right here and is a level 9 signature creature. He is surrounded by many normal bears that are also aggressive. I find the best tactic is to have a ranged attacker pull the normal bears to the group one by one and kill them first. The reason for this is that nearby creatures will often attack you if you directly attack a signature creature. So if you start on the black bear right away, you increase your chances of having all the bears come charging at you.
This part can be done solo with a hunter and possibly other classes that can separate the bears (like the loremaster). I have not tried it solo with a guardian, minstrel, champion, or captain.
Once the bear is dead, return to Hart Holeman.
You killed him? I don’t generally hold with hunting our local bears just to be rid of them, but that big black bear was dangerous let me tell you!
Here, take this parcel of charcoal back to young Hyacinth, with my courtesy and respect.
Step 2: Bring charcoal to Hyacinth Took
Back to Hyacinth. She is still west of the Great Smials in Tuckborough.
Ah, this will do nicely. I hope that old Hart didn’t give you a difficult time?
Well now, we should be about our next bit of business…
On to the next step…
