Setting the Trap

General Quest

Hal thinks the meat you have will work just fine. The pack of wolves is northeast of town, though you will need to lure out the leader.

STEPS:

1) Slay Bonefang. Hal says:

"The big wolf most likely will be hid up in a cave or hole near the pack…leastways that's always how all the good tales tell. You might try placing the meat outside of his cave to lure him out."

Take the northeast road out of town, and before you get to the Bounders at the town's entrance, leave the road, running north and a bit east into the grass and forest. You will soon come to an area with lots of wolves roaming around some rocks.

This is Stonecrop Tor; you will need to go deeper in to find the cave where the big wolf hangs out. You'll know his cave by the glowing ROCK in front, along with the four sleeping wolves (2 on either side of the entrance, one a group of level 27s and of level 28s)--this is where you will place the fresh and tasty elk-meat (by double-clicking).

However, don't just rush in and slap the bait down, for you will soon find yourself swarmed with wolves. Bonefang (level 31 Signature mob, 2,009 morale and 459 power, though sometimes he is level 30 too) will call his buddies to aid him, and if you have not cleared the area you may have some difficulty staying alive. This is not a fellowship quest, but it is much easier if you have some assistance. So, clear the four wolves in front, clear any nearby wolves (the leaders are level 30), and do it quickly. Good luck!

2) Talk to Hal Gamgee.

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and either Sam's Kitchen Knife, Hal's Old Hunting Bow, or Strange Flowers.
