Song for the Company, A

Class: Minstrel Quest

At level 15, your Minstrel will be offered their first class quest.

Any Minstrel Trainer will offer it to you.
"Your confidence and memory improve, and both are of great importance for a minstrel such as you. The more tales and sings who can remember and the greater the skill with which you relate them, the brighter will be your fate and that of your companions."

It is time for you to seek advice from others!

1. Talk to Piper Prescott

Piper Prescott is a well-known bard, who is always found in the Prancing Pony in Bree-town. He is in the common room, with the local Minstrel Trainer and the Bard of Bree-land.
Now, if you can't find the Prancing Pony on your own, you had best hand in your lute and go be a farmer.

This is the world's easiest quest - as the old song goes, "Money For Nothing"! Just listen to Piper go on and on (like most bards, he loves to hear himself).

He does have a task for you, if you stay awake through his blather. It seems that Leland Underhill, a local Hobbit, has managed to get himself into a spot of trouble. He has gone off in a most un-Hobbitlike fashion, looking for brigands that stole from him. Piper wants you to go to his aid, and then bring back the tale.

1. Help Leland Underhill

Leland is easy to find - he stands along the road, just outside the West Gate of Bree-town, at 29.6s, 53.2w. If you reach the bridge when heading west, you've gone too far! Get your glasses and turn around.

"You're a minstrel? That's wonderful! I'm about to undertake a little adventure, if you want to know the truth. Some no-good brigands stole something of mine, and I'm going to go into their hideout to get it back!
If you don't mind, I could use your help. If you want to write a song about our journey, so much the better! Let me know when you're ready, and we can teach those villains a lesson! I know what cave they're hiding in!"

Note that this is a SOLO quest, so if you are in a fellowship, you will have to disband to continue.

When ready, click on "travel now".
You are now in "Holt Anderson's Grotto", an instanced zone.

2. Talk to Leland Underhill

Leland tells you that the leader of the brigands in this cave is called Holt Adderson. He again urges you to write a song to dramatize the events. I think he is just a big ham.

3. Protect Leland Underhill

Thieving Blackwolds keep giving up!
Tough Theiving Blackwold (12)

Soon enough you come to Holt Adderson (12) who is guarded by another Tough Theiving Blackwold. They are cooking the roast they stole from Leland. He is mortally offended! Take on each in turn until they give up.

Then something utterly ludicrous happens; they all decide to share the roast, in the finest care-bear fashion, with one of them saying, "This hobbit is a capital fellow!" I just rolled my eyes.

4. Talk to Leland Underhill

Talk to Leland to exit the zone. By this time I figure he hired the brigands himself, just so that he could have a song written about his "exploits".

5. Talk to Piper Prescott

Piper wants to hear the tale of course... and luckily the game assumes you were willing to lay it all out for him. Next he wants you to perform it.

6. Jump onto a table near Piper Prescott and sing the Tale of Leland's Lunch.

Suck it up... can't be worse than having to sing a Britney Spears song when you are drunk at a karaoke party, right? Right!
Look in your inventory for the item "The Tale of Leland's Lunch". I had to look a whole lot to find it... looks just like a hunk of leather or something. Right click it to begin the song!

After the song plays, you'll see a message on your screen, saying:
"The audience reaction is overwhelmingly positive."

7. Talk to Piper Prescott

Luckily, he is equally impressed (good thing he had a lot of wine earlier!). He recognizes your skill, as well as your bravery in going to battle with Leland. He is ready to give you your reward at last!

You're done your bit till level 30!
