Chapter 03: Breeders of the Dead

Epic - Book II: The Red Maid

Radagast tells you about the Gaunt-lords, who "have the power to summon the spirits of the Shadow Realm." You are to kill them and gather the sigils they drop so that Radagast may learn Gaunt-lord the gaunt-men serve.

NOTE: My group was: level 31 Hunter, level 30 Guardian, and level 28 Captain. We had a difficult time in the Nan Dhelu area. I would highly recommend a healer for this quest! Our minstrel-less trio had better luck in the Haragmar part.

STEPS:

1) Collect 5 sigils from gaunt-men. Radagast tells you:

"Search the ruins in the far east of Haragmar, defeat these creatures, and bring me their sigil."

Head NE from Ost Guruth though Haragmar, then east to get to Nan Dhelu. The Gaunt War-Singers are level 29-30 Elite mobs, with 4,033-4,250 morale and 684-709 power. They come armed with a pet, the Summoned Wight, a regular level 29 mob. If you decide to kill the pet first, the Gaunt-men just summon more. In fact, they seem to be able to have several pets out at the same time. Plus, if you decide to venture into the ruins of Nan Dhelu (entrance stairs: 31.2s, 25.6w, one actual Gaunt-man spawn: 31.6s, 25.5w), you will likely encounter plenty of additional undead trying to get in on the action as well (read: ADDs galore). Those mobs will be level 25-27. You can, however, find enough Gaunt-men to fulfill your quest in the more eastern hills of Haragmar (31.2s, 26.7w).

2) Bring the sigils back to Radagast. Radagast tells you that Ivar the Blood-hand is the ruler of the gaunt-men.

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, Red Stone, and either Boots of the Ruin-Hold or Greataxe of the Brown Wizard, and you will now be able to take the next quest, Chapter 4: The Stone-Speaker.
