Chapter 05: A Dead Man's Challenge

Epic - Book II: The Red Maid

Aric suggests that to gain more knowledge, you talk to the dead. One shade in particular, Emelin, has been stubborn in communicating with Aric, but Aric thinks if you can "prove yourself to him, this might grant enough status in his eyes to lend you aid."

STEPS:

1) Talk to Emelin. Aric says to you:

"Beware when you speak to him. He will try and win your trust with pleasant words, then send you off to your doom. You will find him at the ruins of Ost Haer."

You'll find Emelin just a few steps south away from Aric (37.7s, 28w). He tells you:

"Wisdom will be thine if thou are proven worthy. Dare thou face my warriors? If thou can claim victory, then I shall help thee upon they quest."

As soon as you select "Continue Quest", Emelin's goons will spawn and attack you, one level 28 Arthedain Guard and one level 28 Arthedain Soldier.

2) Defeat Emelin's men. This should be quite do-able for the solo adventurer of the high 20s; just be prepared!

3) Talk to Emelin. He gives you some information:

"Terrible deeds I have done in the name of the kings of eld. While evil corrupted this land, my men and I stood by and did nothing, ignoring our change. Now the Red Maid serves Angmar…something we swore to prevent. Iarwain Ben-adar cursed us to live as half-dead, such was our failure."

He wants you to help him break his curse.

4) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and you will now be able to take the next quest, Chapter 6: In the Gaunt-Lord's Grasp.
