Giant Problems

General Quest

If not for the joy of quest rings showing up on one's radar, I may not have known this quest was available. Amlan is sneakily standing next to some barrels on the right (south) side of the Prancing Pony, outside the Inn (29.6s, 51.2w).

Remember the huge giant you saw when you picked up Dob Sandheaver's pack back in your teenage years? Well Amlan tells you that the giant has been causing problems, waylaying travelers and coming to the Bree-fields. It's time for you to show him what's what.

NOTE: Unless you're doing this when you've far out-leveled the quest, you'll need a fellowship. I did it with three, very easily: Myself, 33 Hunter; Brasse, 32 Guardian, and Risi, 30 Minstrel.

STEPS:

1) Defeat Svalfang. Amlan elaborates to you:

"I would ask you to gather companions and face Svalfang. We Rangers have protected the borders of the Shire for years, but there are too few of us here to face this foe. I would not have Aragorn return to find that the land he guarded for so many years in ruin because of my inaction. Do what you must, but find the giant and drive him forth from these lands."

If you can't recall how to get to Svalfang, just click on the prerequisite quest, Big Problems. Svalfang is a level 30 Elite, with 4,250 morale and 709 power, and he wanders his hut area (25.1s, 62.4w).

2) Bring news of your deeds to Amlan.

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, Svalfang's Fall, and either Gelluiranc, Amlan's Cloak, or Svalfang's Bane.
