Proving Your Quality
Proving Your Quality
General QuestEogar figures you have learned a lot by delivering his steeds, and is happy for the favor. Before you can gain the ability to ride your own horse, you must complete his course faster than Eogar's farmhand Cam ("a little over two minutes").
You receive a warning: "Clicking on the 'Mounted' induction bar gives you the option to dismount your steed but will also cancel the quest."
STEPS:
1) Mount your Bloodbay steed and race to the first gate. Eogar tells you:
"Simply ride through each of the gates on your mount before racing off to the next one. Be careful not to miss any gates! You will have to start over if you run out of time, and be aware that I have a number of jumps and water pits along the trail."
This is certainly the most difficult of the horse/pony challenges. I was amazed that I finished it my first time. I took the time to run through the course on foot before I started, perhaps that helped. I will share here what I did.
Right after you get on the Bloodbay, your timer starts, so make sure you are facing south, ready to head out of the first gate as soon as you hop on. You'll quickly pass through two gates, and then the path gets lighter (don't turn left). Hug the inside of the gate as you get close to the third gate:

Pass through the fourth gate, and get ready to jump a tree shortly before the fifth gate:

As you round the corner to approach the sixth gate, veer off the path and jump the fence on the left to shave a second or two off your time:

Pass through the seventh gate, and you'll see the eighth somewhat on your right, with a fence to jump over first:

Next up is a water hazard. Having experienced bad things on horses and water earlier, I decided to completely skirt the water, on the left, jumping the fence instead, and then going through gate number nine:

The ninth gate is just ahead:

Note that just after getting credit for the ninth gate, you should jump the fence to the left instead of going around the big rock before gate ten (no foliage was actually harmed in the filming of this write-up, do not fear):

Stay near the inside of the fence as you approach the eleventh gate, and ready your horse to make another jump:

Now you're really in the home stretch! You'll pass a large rock on your right and then you'll have one more fence to jump to get credit for gate number twelve:

From here, it's a straight ride south to get to the point where the course is complete, and you hopefully have not run out of time:

Note that I completed the course FIRST, and then I went back and took shots of how I did it. I am not *that* talented!
2) Talk to Eogar, son of Hadorgar. He tells you that "You should now be able to handle a horse on your own."
3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and you gain the ability to ride a mount, yippe-ki-ay! You can then double-click on Eogar to buy your horse (Elves and Men) or pony (Dwarves and Hobbits) for 4gold, 220silver.
Special thanks to Brasse for helping me with the screenshot uploading and stuff. I know that she knows that I could do it if I had to, but she knows that I know that she knows that I am so happy that she does it for me!
Special thanks go out to Wren for providing this quest writeup!
