Tracks Through Evendim

Class: Hunter Quest

This is the quest that grants you the ability to return (with your fellowship) to Ost Guruth.

Torogethir tells you that Horace Roxhythe knows all the best paths in Evendim, and you should speak with him if you wish to learn them.

STEPS:

1) Talk to Horace Roxhythe. Torogethir tells you:

"Be warned, though, that he will expect proof of your skills as a hunter before he teaches you anything."

Horace is in town, standing alone in front of a wall (12.5s, 67.3w). Before he teaches you the skill you seek, you must prove yourself as a Hunter by finding an arrow-head he has hidden somewhere in Evendim.

2) Find scratched arrow-head. He says to you:

"I will tell you this: I crossed the bridge from Tinnundir to the mainland. So you will want to begin your search for my trail there."

NOTE: It may be possible that you can just skip all of the initial tracks and head straight for the arrow-head (coords and info below), but I have not tested the quest this way (I doubt you can, though).

To proceed normally, cross the bridge to the northeast and you'll find your first set of Subtle Tracks, which you'll double-click to decipher (12.2s, 66.3w). The tracks tell you:

"The marks in the dirt leave no question: the trail here leads southeast."

Be aware that during the rest of the quest you will encounter solo mobs in the early-mid 30s levels. I ran up the hill behind me to the east, and soon found the next set of tracks (12.5s, 65.8w). From them you learn the same thing:

"The marks in the dirt leave no question: the trail here leads southeast."

Hop a bit more to the southeast, and amidst the flowing greenery you'll find more tracks (13.1s, 65.2w). These tell you the trail has gone cold:

"The trail here is muddled and confused. That Horace came this way is unmistakeable to your skilled eye, but you cannot discern in what direction he left this place."

You may find additional tracks, but unless you're going the right way, they are just to tell you that "It is not likely that Horace came this way."

The correct next set of tracks is south, and ends up close to the High King's Crossing (13.4s, 64.5w). It tells you:

"There is little question to your keen eye that Horace's trail here bends southwest."

Go a little ways to the southwest, and you'll find more tracks next to a bush (13.7s, 64.8w). After examining them, you'll get this message:

"Peering closely at the soil, you find a scratched arrow-head partially embedded in the dirt. This must be Horace's arrow-head."

Huzzah!

3) Bring scratched arrow-head to Horace Roxhythe.

4) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, the Guide to Evendim skill, and either 3 Polished Quick Traps or 3 Improved Strong Traps.
