Bounty-Hunter, The

General Quest

NOTE: You will only be offered this quest after you have completed the four Bounty quests: Bounty: Andy Idden, Goblin-Friend; Bounty: Bill Tripper, Master of Blades; Bounty: Harry Hinchcliffe, Dead-Eye; and Bounty: Thauk, Vile Warg.

Basil tells you that someone has been putting up posters in town. He wants to discuss it with you.

STEPS:

1) Read the poster near Basil Gummidge. Basil says to you:

"The poster is just over there by the wall, by the stairs."

It is on the same side of the wall as Basil stands (7.4s, 64.4w). The poster reads:

"For the death of Wren, Hunter of no account, Cuthbert Sprunt offers two gold pieces. This Hobbit has come to Evendim and caused nothing but trouble. Just ask Mrs. Idden where her boy Andy is, or the widow Tripper why her son Will is missing a brother!"

It continues:

"If you think you've been wronged in this, Wren, "bounty-hunter," then you come talk to Mr. Sprunt at the Sparring Circle. We'll sort it out, fair-like."

Select "Continue Quest" to go to the next step.

2) Bring wanted poster to Basil Gummidge. Basil says he will come along to make sure that Sprunt won't cheat in the battle. Select "Continue Quest" to go to the next step.

3) Talk to Basil Gummidge and travel to the Sparring Circle. When you are ready (this is a solo quest, if you're in a fellowship at this point you must leave it), talk to him and select "Travel Now". You're ported to an instance, wherein a voice intones:

"Basil Gummidge hired adventurers from throughout Eriador to bring the ruffians and tomb-robbers of Evendim to justice, but now a notorious tomb-robber, Cuthbert Sprunt, has placed a bounty upon the arbiter's own hunters..."

4) Talk to Basil Gummidge. He waits for you in the Sparring Circle (7.1s, 63.8w). Select "Continue Quest" to go to the next step.

5) Defeat Cuthbert Sprunt. Cuthbert Sprunt is a level 37 Signature mob with 2,661 morale and 446 power. Like many of the bad guys around, he's got a mouth on him:

Cuthbert Sprunt says: "Single combat? That's rich!"
Cuthbert Sprunt says: "I'm ready, you worthless Hunter."
Basil Gummidge says: "Are you ready, Wren?"
Cuthbert Sprunt says: "The Hobbit looks ready enough to me!"
Basil Gummidge says: "I don't want to see any dirty tracks, Sprunt!"
Cuthbert Sprunt says: "I've had enough of this! Now you're going to pay, Wren!"

After you've beat him down, your quest advances...

2) You and Basil must survive Sprunt's treachery. Here is where Cuthbert pulls out the sneaky guns:

Cuthbert Sprunt says: "Get in here, boys!"
Basil Gummidge says: "Archers, on the walls above us!"
Graham Hinchcliffe says: "A better hunter might have seen this coming, Wren!"
Basil Gummidge says: "Sprunt, you villain! I always knew you for a cheating coward!"
Sprunt's Archer says: "You win! You win!"
Cuthbert Sprunt says: "Need to catch...my breath..."
Sprunt's Archer says: "Sorry, boss! This Hunter is too tough!"

The extra archers are level 32 normal mobs. Basil will help you a bit in the attacking. You'll also need to take out Graham Hinchcliffe, a level 35 Signature mob with 2,387 morale and 419 power. When you've killed him, he spews out:

Graham Hinchcliffe says: "you win! You win!"
Basil Gummidge says: "You all right, Wren? Looks like we taught Sprunt a thing or two after all."

3) Talk to Basil Gummidge. When you are ready to go back, select "Travel Now."

4) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and Panthavron's Pendant.
