Calenthon and Malloval

General Quest

Calenthon suspects that it is Hillmen of Rhudaur that are poisoning the bears. He sent his falcon to spy on them, but the bird has not returned and Calenthon is now concerned for its safety. You will go and try to call the bird.

NOTE: While this is listed as a "fellowship" quest, Brasse (level 38 Guardian) and myself (level 40 Hunter) did not have trouble doing this.

STEPS:

1) Use Calenthon's whistle on the southern slope. Calenthon instructs you:

"...take it and climb the hill to the south. Blow the whistle from its sloping side, and Malloval should come to you, or at the very least answer your call with one of his own. If the latter, go to him, for it is likely he is beset by danger! You may wish to take friends, for this region is not safe."

I went right around the corner from Calenthon (to the south) and stood on a hill (28.4s, 15.3w). Right there I got an onscreen message stating that "This would be a good place to use Calenthon's Whistle." Once you double-click the whistle to use it, a screen identical to the Hunter's tracking UI pops up. From here, you are supposed to see Malloval on the track list, select him, and then he'll show up as a red-dot on your radar, helping you find him.

Well, none of that worked for us, so we just blundered around until we saw him. To get to Malloval, head north from Calenthon's camp, down the valley between the mountains. When it ends, turn right (east). From here, you can take the downward path, or take an uphill slope to the farther right. Head for the latter and continue up the path. You will eventually see a quest ring to the left, and that is where Malloval waits in the corner of the ruins (28.1s, 14.9w).



2) Find and defend Malloval. After you speak with Malloval and select "Continue Quest", some regular mobs will attack: a Corcur Poisoner (level 40), a Corcur Skirmisher and a Wight Dread-Warrior (in the high 30s for their level).

3) Bring Calenthon's whistle back to Calenthon.

4) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and you will now be able to take the next quest, Keepers of the Dead.
