Troll-Keeper, The

General Quest

Thaliollang wants you to "put an end to Angmar's influence over the Stone-trolls of Taur Gonwaith!"

NOTE: For your comparison purposes, here was my fellowship composition: Myself, a level 38 Hunter; Cerula, a level 32 Champion; Balgorn, a level 32 Guardian; Hending, a level 50 Minstrel; and Poki, a level 44 Champion. Many thanks to all that helped me with this quest!

NOTE: For questal efficiency, you may wish to work on this quest at the same time as Disarming the Valley, the other quest that occurs in this zone.

STEPS:

1) Defeat the Favagair Troll-Keeper. Thaliollang tells you:

"Return to Taur Gonwaith and seek out the caves on its southern edge, near the lake beyond Merenost."

He adds:

"Baranwen, particular among us, was disturbed by Lagorlam's news. Speak with her before you travel to the cave."

To get to the Troll cave with minimal fighting, take a water route through Meluinen and exit here: (16.5s, 42.4w). After you are out of the water, head northeast, following the line of rocks and stones going up the hill. You will be able to see the cave to the south; at this point you'll be in Taur Gonwaith. Head south to the cave and zone in (16.6s, 42.1w). Fight your way through a slew of Elite Trolls in their lower 30s, and pass through a waterfall.

You'll soon see some Elite Hillmen. From this chamber, you want to head to the right, towards a ramp that leads down. On the bottom of this area, you'll see a tower-type thing where the big meanie awaits. That is Favargair Troll-Keeper, a level 32 Elite with 4,705 morale and 759 power. He's a mouthy one, even as you are beating him down:

"My work here is finished! You are too late to heal the hurt I have caused! The former chief of the stone-trolls also sought to oppose me, and was dealt with!"

He keeps going:

"The stone-trolls serve my masters now, and gladly! The stone-trolls of Taur Gonwaith head only my voice, now! You will never triumph! Fight on, my servants! Help me, my masters! Fight on, my servants! But I am...the greatest of..."

2) Talk to Thaliollang.

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and either Longbeard's Hammer, Favargair's Foil, Turphadanir or Eldram.
