Disarming the Valley

General Quest

NOTE: This quest will only be available to you after you complete the quests Scattered Belonging and The Stolen Ornament. LINK THEM HERE

Baranwen is concerned about the Hill-people in the Troll cave. She wants you to collect some of their weapon chests, for, as she explains: "If even one of the blades we seize would have otherwise slain an innocent, I shall count this day's labour worth the toil."

NOTE: For your comparison purposes, here was my fellowship composition: Myself, a level 38 Hunter; Cerula, a level 32 Champion; Balgorn, a level 32 Guardian; Hending, a level 50 Minstrel; and Poki, a level 44 Champion. Many thanks to all that helped me with this quest!

YET ANOTHER NOTE: For questal efficiency, you may wish to work on this quest at the same time as The Troll-Keeper, the other quest that occurs in this zone.

STEPS:

1) Collect 5 weapon-chests. Baranwen says to you:

"Seek out weapon-chests in the troll-cave and bring them to me. I shall destroy the foul blades."

To get to the Troll cave with minimal fighting, take a water route through Meluinen and exit here: (16.5s, 42.4w). After you are out of the water, head northeast, following the line of rocks and stones going up the hill.

You will be able to see the cave to the south; at this point you'll be in Taur Gonwaith. Head south to the cave and zone in (16.6s, 42.1w). Fight your way through a slew of Elite Trolls in their lower 30s, and pass through a waterfall.

You'll soon see some Elite Hillmen (level 32). From this chamber, you want to head to the right, towards a ramp that leads down. You'll see your first chest on the left. Go down another ramp, and there is another chest down here. The third chest is on the bottom floor, on the right side, against the wall. The fourth is close to the third, on the left side of the chamber. The last chest I got is on the left, up a ramp, before you get to the tower with Favagair on it.

I was the only one in my fellowship that was gathering these chests, so I do not know how long the respawn timer on them is.

2) Bring Angmarim weapon-chests to Baranwen.

3) After you speak with them and select "Finish Now", you get your coin reward, XP, and Arasbadanir.
